Getting an error electrical noise from rear of car. Thought it may be coming from rear speakers so discounted them but sound still there. What else could it be, fuel pump?

From the back, passenger side? Then very likely fuel pump..
Jack car up, left rear wheel off, start engine, head under wheel arch and listen. The fuel pump is down at chassis level, behind the rear hub, on the outside of the car.

Didn’t go as far as removing the wheel but stuck my head down by the o/s wheel and could hear the whine coming from pump area so thanks for the tip.

Does this mean pump is on its way out? If yes, is it likely to be imminent?

Don’t know....some pumps are just noisier than others. But it might be.

Any restriction on the inlet or outlet will create more noise frown especially inlet restriction , worth checking before throwing a pump at the fault , when the noise occurs also remove the fuel cap to see if anything changes scratchchin

The pump is also on rubber mounts which degrade so there may be a metal/metal contact transmitting the vibration.
