If you are coming to the US on a temporary basis, it's a very straightforward procedure.

You can contact any shipping broker to arrange the actual shipping of the car. Simply tell them that you will be doing a temporary import.

You will have to submit a form HS-7 that is available on the DOT website--check the appropriate box, give it to your customs/shipping broker along with your registration and proof of insurance, and you are done. You will be told when and where you can go pick your car up.

one of our club members took his viper to Miami for 12 months, its was quite a bit of hassle but he got it through eventually and left it on UK plates.

The docks wouldnt let the car clear until a certifact of conformity had be shown, Chrysler UK wouldnt supply one, neither at first would Dodge USA even though the car was made there, and the shippers couldnt help.... so the car sat in the docks for a month running up a storage bill.

Insurance was very expensive to, nearly 3 times the UK price
