Just cleaned car. Something in the water? Help...

I cleaned and waxed the car to a beautiful shine 3 weeks ago.
I took it out, and a few birds, the flying ones, splatted the paint work. So I rinsed the car with the hose when I got home, and left it to dry naturally (no Chamoix available at the time).

Went in the garage during the week and noticed that the water beads had dried and left lots (loads) of circular dry marks all over the car. Just figured when I clean it again, they would go.

Well, I have just given the car a real good clean, using Turtle Wax Wash n Wax (a little less than it recommends on the instructions) went over the car 3 times with some warm water, rinsed throughout, and dried with a chamoix.

The problem is, the dried water residue is still all over the car. Whilst you have to take a close look to see it, its very noticeable, and cant understand why this would be the case.

The car looks very clean, and shiney, but any ideas on the marks its left, and how I can get rid of?

I rinse my Frontera all the time, as gets loads of bird crap on the drive, and its never left with this type of residue on it?

I tried some wax on a small area, and it didnt remove the marks. I also seem to remember I had a similar prob on my grif a few years back, and could never get rid of the marks!!

YOu need polish not wax. Wax just leaves a protection. Polish cuts into the paint and removes cr@p.

Im in a hard water area as well .. when I first saw the marks I thaught something had eaten thru the laquer ... I had to Tcut the panels then wax them to get rid ... have waxed a few times since and chammyd ... tried the new Flash washer ... seems Ok ... did it late at night so it couldnt evaporate off properly ... rained most of weekend so didnt bother trying again ...will do in the week though!

at moment but would reappear I reckon with std water and no chammy ... I rewashed chamm'd tcut then a fine polishing compound all by hand then waxed ... good few hours work!

I have the same problem when I moved to my new house. The hard water leaves marks if you dont dry the car. Have a dark blue scooby and they are quite noticeable. As said earlier in this thread, Polish gets most of the marks off. Some of the marks that had been on the car for a while needed T-cut, but now looks like new...well appart from stone chips!

I bought an de-inoniser thing yesterday to avoid the marks on drying paintwork. It is only the flash one but I think it might help once old marks are gone. The old marks wont come back one cut/polished out, but new ones will arrive if you allow hard water to dry on the car.

I've got one of these and I have a black car, it is brilliant. Really does leave no marks and a very healthy shine. I tend to take most of the water off with a blade, but I don't have to worry about every single drop anymore.

I don't know if you guys have seem the waterfilters used under your kitchen sink. Sory no link, well I have an inline version on my gargen hose at the tap end. Change the cartridge every 6 months, no residue atall.
PS for hardwater areas this is ideal.

dont wash it-take it to the garage for its weekly fettle and it will come back clean!

I think that you shouldn't bother washing it.

Whenever you get the sick urge, just get in, point the car at the nearest dual carraigeway and press the loud pedal.

In no time the car will be a kind of grey black colour.

Just as it should be !

get yourself a rain barrel to collect the rain water and use this to rinse off. Have done this for twenty years plus, mainly with black cars which are a bugger, never leaves any marks.

yep can confirm the flash deioniser gadget does work ... no residue left on my nice shiney black paint! wont stay clean for long tho watch out BUGS here I come!

as long as i dont stop cos it wont start again ...
