My suggestion is the Mondeo in Titanium X Sport spec it ticks all of your boxes & is the best FWD in class:

Another worthy option is the 508 SW in Diesel Hybrid form:

The other one to consider is the Infiniti Q50 in Premium/Premium Executive Spec, it's the VFM option but is a very good car:

The next best VFM car that ticks all the boxes is the Insignia in Elite Nav form:

All the above tick your boxes but it the Mondeo would be my pick followed by the Infiniti & the Insignia, all are reliable so test drives will help you decide.

Gotta family?

Gotta have a Volvo!

2 or 2.4 litre V60 diesel will tick all your boxes or if you need loads of boots pace then an XC70 can be had or if you want an SUV then an Xc60 will be in budget.

Come with loads of goodies, comfy to spend time in, cheap(ish) to insure and some will have the integrated booster seats for your little 'uns

Have you thought about an E Class?
I have just changed jobs so needed a car, and its the only car in the household so needs to be versatile.
Whilst its quite a physically big car, the 220cdi i have did an indicated 56mpg run on a 80 mile round trip, the boot is large, comfy inside and allegedly they will go on for a long time if looked after.
I was pleasantly surprised when I insured it too - although I was able to use a letter from our Company Secretary as some NCD, without the NCD wasn't as much as I thought it would be.
Cheers
Rob
