Mine over the three years I have owned the car has plenty of marks on it and this weekend I collected a good sized chip, If i go through the insurance do you think I would get a genuine replacement?

I had a chip in my GTS screen, bad one, so went to insurance. They insisted on auto-glass, stood my ground. Their contract may be with them, I didn’t sign anything to that effect and so I wanted OPC. Cited warranty as an issue, car value etc etc

Eventually, after a quote from OPC and a number of calls got my way, car into OPC and genuine known replacement fitted. Bit of effort, but worth it in my opinion.

Depends on the terms of your policy.

May insist on cheaper Autoglass et al alternatively if you insist OPC they may penalise.

Always insist they confirm when the policy is taken out that all repairs including glass replacement to be undertaken at official OPC without penalty to yourself.

As others have said all about your policy. Given Porsche’s attitude to non OEM parts and warranty it’s imperitive that your insurance covers OEM parts and either OPC/garage of your choice for repairs.

The best available product is the one from Porsche.

Insurance companies will be keen to push you towards their nominated repairer and quite often the number quoted on your policy will be aimed at the repairer's call centre. There might be some dialogue about paying an increased excess (or supplement) or making up the difference between what the repairer is contracted to fit and what your preference is, but all of this should be reasonably clear to see in the (policy) Key Facts (or Schedule) and you should have been made aware of this before policy inception.

Many thanks for the replies, I have emailed the ins co and will see what they say, a few years ago a friend had a new screen and it was fitted by auto glass, they came and fitted a genuine item, I assume at the time there was nothing else available.

Let’s see what they say.

I went through this , Autoglass said they would supply a "genuine screen " .they didnt manage to source one so i told the insurers i couldn't wait any longer and the car was illegal to drive .
OPC arranged the repair , ordered the screen in from Germany and .........employed auto glass to fit it !

I paid the bill and insurers refunded me fully ( less the XS) .

I spoke to my insurance and they told me if I wanted a genuine screen to sort it my end and send them them the bill. They would up the excess to £125 but would cover the costs.

Ordered a screen from Porsche and will just use a local fitting firm.

Hi Carl. Having gone to the trouble of getting the best screen, make sure you get it fitted by the best fitter. Paul Ralhan (Glassman on here) owns a company called Glasstec. You won’t find better. I have been using Paul for over 10 years and he is the only man I would go to. Normally people say “no association” etc. Over 10 years I am pleased to call Paul a friend too but in this context he is the best man to do your screen. He is based in North London but does travel and will often be up north!

As it so happens, I'm near Lutterworth tomorrow to removed and refit a creaking 993 windscreen fitted by A N Other.

(thanks for the kind words - Green Shields stamps in the post)
