Jaguar XK 4.2 Engine

Hi gents ,

I'm currently building a Jaguar C type replica and will soon start my engine rebuild .
I have 2 engines available for rebuild , but don't know their exact spec .

Can anybody help me with the engine number relation to the spec of the engine ( compression ratio , HP , ... ) , as to decide which block will be the best base for my build .

The 2 engine numbers are :

• 8L55988-S
• 7L72770-S

I know they are both 4.2 liter .

The 7L... is from a series 1 XJ6, the 8L... from a Series 2 or 3.

If you have the choice of the two then I would suggest going for the 8L one, as it will have the larger valves in the head. If you are going to be rebuilding it I would not worry too much about the CR as you can get to what you require during the rebuild.

I have just about finished my C build well it is finished driven it a few miles now juts need to get it through the IVA test.
