Not posted for a while, but it was the best place I can think of that has a lot of knowledgeable bikers in one place.

I am trying to get cover for ALL my motorcycle gear, however both my bikes have policies which cover £500 or £750 of helmet and "leathers" cost. The second one will up that to £1000 but this still isn't really enough once winter hits and the Gore-tex comes out.

Adding up the gear I will be in over winter,I am looking for a separate policy that would cover say £2500? I haven't found any place that seems to offer it, but it feels like a service we could do with, stick an Arai and full race leathers on and you are well north of the standard cover offered by any of the big bike insurers.

/\ This is the correct answer.

I have something like £12k of cover for 'away from home losses' or whatever they call it on my home contents policy, most of that is to cover my watch but as a new Arai is £600+ and boots are £250+ it soon adds up yikes

Check with your broker as you should have some cover in place already but there's no harm in upping the amount of cover or specifying certain items.

Mine's under my home insurance now as a specific item for accidental damage away from home.

Seems weird that the brokers don't have additional options for extended gear cover... Up the premiums for better margins, what's the cost of gear against writing off most newish bikes? Not a fat lot really.

I couldn't find anyone willing to offer cover of more than £1,000, which is pretty poor these days. Hence, home insurance.
