Brake Master Cylinder

Anyone know what car this is from.

The parts list states that the servo is from a Saab 9000 but does this include the master cylinder.

I want to relace the seals (or the unit) but am not sure of supply.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I replaced the master cylinder on my 88 S1 a couple of years ago. It was certainly from a Saab 9000, but it is actually a Lucas Girling part. I just went to my local Lucas stockist for it.

I kept the box label in case I needed to get another one in the future - not sure which is the actual part no but this is what is written on it -

The mastercylinder is saab 9000. but the resevoir pipes colapse due to heat, clips, etc.
I have replaced mine whith a 1989 Fiesta master cylinder and servo complete with integral resevoir. You will need to reposition the some of the holes in the bulkhead but thats easy.
It works a treat and looks much neater. Just an idea for you. Cheers Mick.

I got a price for the saab unit today £90 plus the vat.

This sounds a bit steep so I have to consider a rebuild on the current unit or a swap to the Fiesta unit as recommended by Mick.


Any part numbers/prices. I guess this involves sourcing a second hand servo and then fitting a new master cylinder. Other than the redrilling of the bulkhead, does it require any other modifications.

£90 plus vat does seem very steep. I have checked my old invoice and I only paid £53 plus vat. It gives the full list price as £107 - this seems to be what you have been quoted.

Don't bother going to Lucas direct - I got mine from an independant brake specialist (Friction Linings)who can get hold of most Lucas items. I think they have outlets dotted around the country.

Only the holes need to be modified slightly as there not in a square patern. Mine came from a 1990 fiesta diesel (yuc) and fitted straight on apart from the holes.
