Been waiting a lifetime for them to move up above 70p...should I hold on or cash out?!

I Have been with these for years, get a small divi now but my god it’s like watching paint dry. Good day traders have made a fortune off this share going a few pence up and down every week.

I've a fair few grand in these also. So depressing watching them sink daily

If you have 50 years left of your life, I really do think you have a good chance of early retirement.

My response to anyone who asks me if x, y and z Bank is worth getting into or will such and such go back to wherever, is.....do you actually have a deeper understanding of what’s happened to banks and what they are like internally?

When you see what cost to income ratios look like for some of these places (and Lloyds is often the best as at the higher end of management their pay is the weakest in comparison!), then day traders with no vested interest can make quick bucks on day changes. But it isn’t for long termers. Banks across the West have significant strategic challenges.

The heady days of 2006 are long gone.

By and large - cynically - there are only two types of Bank staffers who hold stock.

- the 15yr veterans still plugging along, bemoaning at the water cooler why they didn’t sell years ago
- the grimacing newly minted junior MD who’s got the offer from HR and sees exactly how much is tied up in their LTIP hehe

I've worked in (investment) banks and previously held Lloyds bank shares (back when they mysteriously took over HBOS), but before commenting would be useful to know why you are holding individual shares rather than something with less concentration/more diversification such as a fund(s)?

One reason could be that the make up of a fund is decided by a fund manager who receives a fee for this service. You could make the argument that if a fund manager really knew which way the wind was blowing they wouldn't need to work for a living.
