Audi A5 2010, Gearbox Malfunction
Discussion
Hi All,
I need some help. I've been reading around the forums and have come to learn that Gearboxes should typically last around 100 to 150k on the road.
My Gearbox Malfunction light came on around a month a go and has been doing so intermittently since then. I took the car to Audi Finchley Road for diagnostics and got the following report back:
Found Fault for Torque limitation due to excessive temperature. Will require printed Circuit board repair as first stage of repair and carry out adaptions plus 1.0 hour adaptions drive.
The cost to do this is very high and my concern is that it's the first stage of repair and the man at Audi has said that I will have to come in for further repairs after this one.
Does this sound reasonable or am I about to embark on a journey of going back and fourth with Audi and incurr further costs?
I asked about the goodwill given my car has done 29k and I am aware that gearbox problems are known issues. I got a straight no.
I'm not sure what to do.
that is: Find someone who can fully fix the problem, stay with Audi services and potentially incur more costs or seek a second opinion from another Audi garage or independent who knows what they are doing?
Please help.

How long have you owned the car? Does it have full audi service history? Was it bought from a dealer? If the answer to the last 2 questions are no then you won't get any goodwill from Audi unfortunately but if the answer is yes then speak with Customer services to try and get some goodwill although it's unlikely on an 8 year old car mileage is irrelevant as far as goodwill in this case goes. It's 8 years old.
Ok, previous owner is irrelevant but if it's full AUDI service history including from you then you could try speaking to customer services but unless you have lots of brand loyalty (buying cars and servicing at Audi dealers) then I wouldn't hold your breath.
I'd be inclined to take it to an independent garage rather than a main dealer if you're not getting a contribution.

Thanks for your advice, I'm struggling to find a good independent dealer. I had a few recommendations but upon digging deeper and doing my research online (i.e. google reviews, etc), they were not as reputable as they make themselves out to be.
I was hoping that I could get some direction on this website.
Hmm, I just looked at their website. They look like they might be worth the trip or the cost to deliver and drop...
I knew this was the right place to go to for advice...
I have just spoken to a guy named Geza on the phone who could more or less predict the issue.
Thank you so much for your advice!

Let us know how you get on, they repaired my DSG box on my Mk5 GTi after several other "experts" quoted double the price and main dealers would only fit new parts.
Changed the car from being really jerky and violent gear changes to silky smooth changes. The have a decent waiting room if you have to travel a bit to get there and will show you around the workshop and the lab upstairs if you're interested in the repairs and what they do.
