Hi all,

I’m here with a problem/issue here for once.

I plug the battery charger into the socket in the boot every time I leave my DB9 in the garage, usually until the following weekend when I use it. I know it’s not really necessary for just a few days, but I still do it.

I just popped into the garage and the battery charger was making a fast clicking noise and flashing, so I’ve unplugged it now and wait for any advice experience please chaps!?

The charger is possibly not connected to car

See below (from my CTEK manual)

Hi, thanks very much for your help.

I’ll have a look later. The charger was still definitely plugged in.

All the best,

Guy

Guy, I've had this with my V8V plugged into the 'boot' socket. All looks well but the cigar lighter type connection is not making properly and cleaning it then 'screwing it around' as it is replaced sorts it. Might help? regards, Dave

I've had this issue too - it works better if it's plugged into the cabin socket.

This probable has to do with the socket being live or not after you lock the car. Some 12V sockets shut down others stay “live” Alternatively, try to wiggle the pin in the socket a bit if the connection is loose.

Make sure you hold the metallic frame when pushing into the cigarette socket (Assuming yours in similar to mine). The frame is quite flimsy and sometimes doesn't connect properly.

Thank you to all of you for your advice. Very much appreciated.

I’ve tried wiggling it and also tried slotting it into the cigarette lighter socket in the car, still flashing. (That all sounds a bit rude!)

I’m going to change the fuse in the plug.

If that doesn’t work, it must be a loose connection in the wire, so it’ll be a new charger.

Oh well!

Red wine time, Cheers Chaps!

I’ve used the Bentley official charger on my GT Speed which I believe is the same model as Aston use, the MXS7?

I’ve had two units fail in a manner similar to what you’re describing. Flashing light.

I now use a standard ctek MXS5 with the correct adaptor attached to the end and it’s been perfect.

I bought the adapter off eBay and it has the orange/black ctek plug connected to it so plugs straight in to the end of the mxs5 cable.

Far easier and a lot cheaper.

It also has the AGM setting which the standard Bentley charger doesn’t. (The GT Speed has an AGM battery)

I feel my battery has been far stronger and reliable since I switched to the mxs5.

Sorry for reviving an old thread.

My AM trickle charger started clicking over the past couple of days. My Vantage has been covered and not been on the road since before the lockdown and had been on the trickle charger since. I have started the car twice in that time and I opened the car today to check the other ports inside the car as suggested in this thread, but the ticking was the same in both internal cigarette ports.

Would that mean the trickle charger is likely dead? or potentially anything else before I pull the trigger on a new CTEK.
