I've just bought my wife a 2008 Golf GT TSI that came in PX at my work, it's a great little car but it only has the standard basic CD player/stereo. I'd really like to upgrade this to a Sat Nav system with Bluetooth etc. Has anyone any experience of any of the non-genuine ones that seem to all over ebay?

It seems to be impossible to find out who actually make them so can't find any reviews and they seem to good to be true, £200 for nav, Bluetooth, DVD player etc...

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Stick with genuine VW - an RCD 330 from Ali Express will be 130-150 although you'll be reliant on GSM data as the nav is via carplay and they don't have DAB. This head unit is a lot like that used in a current Fabia, for example.

Getting a used CAN Gateway coded will take you up to about 200 if you're happy to install yourself. Microphone is built into the unit and the nav antenna is in your phone so installation is a doddle.

In my experience the Android ones always feel a bit clunky/sluggish and are nowhere near as intuitive to use as OE.

I just fitted RNS315 into my wife's Golf (nav/DAB/BT) for just over £300 installing myself (although a slightly newer car so did not need a new CAN gateway).

I'd recommend the RNS 310 or 315, they're an easy retrofit and add Nav along with a better stereo. Have posted some details on a few of the other recent threads asking similar. You should find in a 2008 car it's quite straightforward, good luck thumbup
