We currently have the misfortune of hearing a plonker in his battered, popping, fart can riddled, piece of st old Clio every night after 11pm. The car looks like it has survived the last few years in Syria and the way he drives it is akin to a blind person with a partially severed right foot.

The exhaust sound is annoying because he has a habit of making it as loud as possible as he heads down our street. He accelerates, then backs off, accelerates, backs off, accelerates, etc. As he does this, the wretched old thing is popping and banging like a liberated middle eastern city.

Is there anything we can do about this? It's really fking loud. I'm guessing a mention to the police? Mention to the council?

Will they do anything about it, or is it just a waste of time?

Thanks all.

In my experience probably not. I did 60k miles in one of the loudest road cars I’ve ever heard and on a couple of occasions the police mentioned it was loud, I just agreed with them and on each occasion nothing more was ever said. Maybe they’re hotter on it in recent times.

Get his number plate and report him to the police. Make a note of dates and times as well.

We have someone similar round our way, but in a old Fiesta, revving the tits off the thing at every opportunity. I think there's a fault with his car as he drives it like the accelerator is an on/off switch. Whenever he sees me on the road, he instantly races up to the back of me, swerving round like he's an F1 driver attempting an overtake. Few months back I saw the front of his car smashed up, gone head first into another, however it only took a few weeks before the thing was back on the road, driving like a weapon again. I've reported him to the police and sent video evidence of his driving, absolutely nothing has changed. There's a local FB page for the town and he's even been featured on there, with people asking who's the idiot racing round in a red Fiesta. People on the comments section claim to have reported him to the police as well, yet still he's flying round, sat in carparks with it bouncing off the limiter and been an anti-social weapon.

By the looks of some legislation I've looked at in the past. A fine can be issues if the exhaust exceeds approx. 90db (I think)

They could also issue a Section 59 for driving like a dick basically.

On the other hand, the police probably can't be arsed looking specifically for one Clio, and will more than likely do nothing.

Wait outside with a box of eggs. Do that a few times and he'll get the message.

It's DSG equipped VAGs here that are the anti social chav choice. I love a loud car, it really doesn't bother me, but a st sounding DSG fart and then accelerate and lift off to hear the gargling and burping sounds just annoys me. IMO it just sounds rubbish.

There is someone on the school run who has a brand new Audi S3. It sounds like someone strangling a toad.

In Sussex they currently have "Operation Crackdown" for this type of thing - antisocial driving, abandoned cars etc. Maybe your local force has somethign similar, just fill in a web form and do something about it?

Its a shame you can't just speak to the driver. There's a chap who comes to visit someone in our cul-de-sac a few nights every week, he's got an old MR2 Turbo but he drives it on the limit the whole time, even though we live right at the bottom of the road where he has to stop. I asked him one evening if he'd mind driving more considerately given its a residential road and he's been fine ever since, mostly.

It's just a dick move really. No need to do it in a residential road if he's doing it just for the sake of doing it.

he'll calm down eventually and relax most likely (presuming he's young)
those of us who live in the city center are so used to this that our brains filter out the noises anyway
or if you're a hard kinda dude then confront him and ask him to not do it until he's off your street

It is annoying, i hve some bruv in an rs6 bomb it up the straight stretch of our road every night at 10pm without fail, barely pulling off the accelerator to go round a blind bend with cars parked each side. I feel like lobbing a breeze block into his path as he gives it the beans. That will teach the .

Where I used to live there was a young guy constantly driving like a tool. 40mph down a cramped road etc.

One day the local hard knock, (lovely guy in all fairness) stopped him, told him to calm down or there would be trouble.

never saw him above 20 after that

Might be better to slow him down rather than him potentially hurting someone.

Move.

Or report it to the rozzers.

Or whine on the internet.
