watched without sound but that's a crazy result considering a 240bhp difference
possibly not the best track to flatter the gt2 also?

The track would already flatter the 2rs with a lot of long straights. Read the rennlist thread on it. Imo the 2rs is doing well to get as close as it did already given it was against a slick shod car. I honestly wonder how anyone thought the 2rs would even be close to the cup.

well sorry, but if you believe some of the stuff written on here I'd of thought that because the 2RS was on PCCBs it should of wiped the floor with the Cup car hehe. In fact, the 2RS should've lap'd the Cup twice, blindfolded, in reverse, with the handbrake on and one arm tied behind the drivers back..

Looking at the SportAuto times it is amazing that the new cars are 4-5 secs alap faster than the 996 GT3 Cup ... Progress in all areas is amazing

Nice one phooey.;)
Things to remember of where the cars used to be.
Now
Longer wheel base,wider track.
Better chassis and suspension.
Areo getting closer to track cars.
Most importantly tyres
my rsr,s are all so different, the grip in the 997 rsr takes some believing and the latest gt2rs is miles off it,but thats down to tyres and aero and no sign of any pccb.

Are we really going to talk about slicks vs road tyres !

The cup should have been on road tyres, then it would have been an interesting vid.

Been far more interesting if both cars had been on the same rubber, slicks of Cups for both.

Then the time delta would have been interesting!

Know from the 980 the difference between Cups and slicks is night and day.

You bad boi , remember that , I used slicks on my 64 RS as well , but needed Avon Crossply as running radial slicks would mean big camber adjustments that the road car could not do without mods .

Will dust them off next year and pop them on to show what the old girl can really do:-)

So long ago when we had the 964's (not as long as you) can't remember how much camber we got on them.

how much time difference would it have made?

what are the differences other than that? imo it makes the gt2rs look pretty awful in comparison

We tested a 996RS on Cup 1s then Pirelli slicks at Brands GP. After 3 laps the slicks were 3 seconds quicker than the cups. After 20 laps the cups were half a second quicker than the slicks. You would need to run a hard rear compound on the GT2 if you were going to run slicks on it so ultimately they will be slower than a sticky slick. I'd still be a lot happier in the Cuppie - especially over 5 or 10 laps. The GT2 is just too fat to have any real chance.

Saw these today for the first time ....... on a 2RS , were sticky like slicks ...... but the owner agrees longevity is an issue ....... reckon 1-2 days on track . As 3 k a set .... a non starter , so carry on slithering around on the Dunlop

I liked the fact that the owner;

a.) let a proper race driver set the lap times
b.) lets his son drive all of his new cars before him because "he doesn't want to be like the Ferrari owning dad on Ferris Bueller"hehe

I can also see that what he's trying to achieve is to get Road America to become an erstwhile Nurburgring in terms benchmark lap times.
