My current search has taken me from my original s2000 idea to a 370z to now I've seen a very shwifty looking 2010 z4 with a 3.0 naturally aspirated engine.

Unfortunately I know next to nothing about these cars and was hoping someone could tell me about potential issues. If there's one thing the Internet isn't short of its reports of reliability issues with bmws!

Before I get flamed for asking about this car, I have tried Google searching for info but all I get is stuff on the smaller engines and the later 3.0 turbo models.

It seems the n/a 3.0 is a forgotten car and I'm wondering if it's best left alone or not?

Head over here and you'll get a bit more info, there might be a few for sale on there as well...

Might be worth checking out the E86 shape as well, 3.0si

I believe that is the n52 engine. Fairly well documented and generally quite reliable. Was found in a fair few bmw’s

I just picked one up a few weeks ago, it's the sDrive30i. I'm also on the lookout for any issues so hope you don't mind me piggybacking this thread!

Remove the runflats seems to be a consensus so factor that in to your calculations.

Like others have mentioned the N52 gets a good rep. I love mine!

Congratulations! thumbup

The N52 3 litre engine is great - I've got one in my E86 and a smaller 2.5 litre one in my 325i Touring.

If they have an issue it's the electric water pump that tends to just die at anywhere between 60K to 80K miles. You don't get any warning signs like weeping or screeching as you would with a mechanical pump, so you just get an amber light followed very quickly by a red light. eek

That isn't an unreasonable life-span IMO, but the problem is the cost. OEM ones are made by Pierburg and BMW will charge over £500 for one - even ECP will want over £250 for the same part. (I've had 1 on each car, but at least knew what to expect the 2nd time).

Something to bear in mind anyway.

Most Z4 owners seem to recommend switching to non run-flats - you'll find loads more useful stuff on Z4forum.com.

Anyway enjoy yours. thumbup

Drive a 370 personally I find them better cars, yes they're heavier but for me I prefer the way they drive, I think it's the short stroke of the suspension it just doesn't settle, test drive all three & you'll soon find out which one suits you best.
