My cousin's daughter bought her 1st new car. The roads have yet another pretty young girl driving around in a pastel coloured FIAT 500.

Not surprisingly considering a new model is just round the corner what sealed the deal was all sorts of discounts, deposit contributions, cash back, low interest loans and a generous trade in value for her old Citroen C1.

What did catch my attention was my cousin telling me that to get the deal the car had to be registered by the dealer first. I found that odd because she got it with a 68 plate on September the 1st.

That meant the car must have been pre-registered for all of 10 minutes. Is that possible or has my cousin got mixed up?

Yep!

I remember my 205GRD Demo, I had it all of 0 miles, buggers sold it before I could sit my bum in it!

Some manufacturers give dealers a bigger discount on the car if it is registered as a demo (for example, standard dealer discount is 10% but demonstrators get an extra 5% on top of that).

Possible that the dealer has done that to give a bigger discount.

Fiat 500's have always been sold with zero margin. Any "discounts" are due to manufacturers bonuses.
The dealer will need to pre-reg cars to hit target to get maximum bonus.
All very silly IMHO.

Would it not be a pre WLTP car that had to be done before the deadline?

If it'd been 18 plate, possibly it would have been registered before 1st Sept deadline. But a 68...?
