My father in law is fking annoying. He comes round my house and starts taking over telling me what I should be tidying up or painting or doing in the garden. I had it out with him once and he goes way over the top and wont speak to me for days on end. My wife is the same, scared to say anything as what he does annoys her for 5 mins but if she was to say anything then he gets in an arse for weeks. What I really want to say is fk off out my house but I have the Mrs down my ear saying I dont want a rift in the family etc.
He has just taken my 2 boys out for the day, came back with fish and chips, I said thanks for taking them out etc, he said in a really arsey voice 'well its a good job i fed them as they would starve otherwise'. I tried to laugh it off and said I think I am capable of feeding them. He stormed out muttering some st about I dont think so.
Right now I really want to lamp him one!

Chap who is a family friend, he lays block paving, very good at what he does. Did some work for the FIL, the old bloke started telling him how to lay the blocks and he was doing it all wrong. Next minute I get a call as the block pavier has him by the throat up against the wall.

Rant over.

The "Won't speak to me for days " bit sounds like a bonus.

Im extending the house, he decides he is going to help, no choice in the matter. He comes over, im doing some digging for the foundations, he grabs the spade off me, then says 'right get yourself a spade now and give me a hand'. I had one 2 seconds ago but some tt took it off me. Im getting to the point now where I want to tell him to fk off so I dont have to speak to him for weeks/months. My ex wifes husband didnt speak to him for 2 years. Lucky sod.

Haha they all do that sir.

Mine "improves" our house in annoying little ways, for example removing the grids from the cutlery holder in the dishwasher as we were loading it "wrong" by having the knives and forks sticking up dangerously, and they should stick down for safety. I think they have a little trouble with acknowledging their litte princesses house is basically another mans territory.

How did your ex wifes husband know him?

Perhaps it might have been your wifes ex husband... but the original version did make me laugh

Indeed - they all do that sir

Mine is the same , but throw in lots of racism along with detailing every pill and ache he had before I've even had a chance to finish saying hello.

I'm quite chilled so put up with it for years , on the other hand I have no problem telling people to F off . So like you op I have the dilemma whether to tell him to F off or just grin and bare it.

When I moved house he came round and slated every part of our new house , particularly the broken toilet seat . I haven't and will never fix the toilet seat just to piss him off when he comes round , ironically tomorow.

For someone who gives it out he is notoriously thin skinned , I cracked a few jokes at his expense at a family gathering and he stormed out .

The funny thing is , underneath he's an ok bloke and on some visits he's pretty decent . On others he's a complete thrush rocket.

Latest things are:

Ive got a skip on the drive, he comes over starts taking all the wood out telling me im silly to be putting this in as I could take it to the tip as Il need the skip for rubble.

Texts my roofer, well text me by mistake as we have the same name, "you told Dave you would call the planning officer Monday. It's now 10am, why havent you done that?'
He text it me first by mistake, 2 mins later I have a text off the roofer: 'hi mate is your Father in Law had a drink or something? Il call the planning dept later'
My response: No Worries dave, no he is always like that, ive no idea how he got your number.'

Came round other day when I was out and thought he would weed the garden, ripped up loads of my plants, I said what are you doing, ive spent loads of money on those, he said well they look rubbish dont they.

But the worst is stty attitude to my house. He walks in the house with his shoes on. We are having building work the outside is filthy. I go upstairs and see sand on the stairs, he is in my daughters room having a chat to her, his fking work boots on her bed. She is too shy to say anything. I have asked him a million bloody times to take his shoes off but he says im OCD and its not major. Mud all over the kitchen floor. I said to him the other week, we have a JCB outside the place is a mudbath, would it not be wise to take your boots off so the kids dont tread in it? He gives me a glum look as if im from the planet Zob.

You're being a mug. On the last paragraph alone you should have told him to fk off out of your house. And if your OH starts on at you about it, tell her to fk off as well.

^ We had a bust up last night about it. She said well what do you want me to do about it. I said nothing, im just forewarning you that quite soon il either smack him in the face or tell him to fking do on.

He text me earlier to say he will be over at 11am to help in the garden. Thankfully we are going out early

Well she can't bh at you for lamping him or telling him to fk off when it inevitably happens then. She's had fair warning to go and speak to him herself and tell him to butt out and stay away. She should see how much it's stressing you and be working with you to sort out the problem before it reaches that point by going and speaking with him.
