One ring out of 3
Discussion
Hi,
Mods, apologies if this is in the wrong section.
My dear old Mum died recently and has left some jewellery (3 rings) to my Wife, unfortunately the 3 rings all have a problem, they are all missing some of the stones. One is a sapphire / diamond and the other a small diamond, and lastly a solitaire with small diamond shoulders missing some of them, and they are all too big for her. The 3 rings have been in the family for at least 3 generations, they are tatty and well worn. It was the wish of my Mum to "do something good with them".
Mrs T has said the sentimental value outweighs the monetary in this case and wants something to remember my Mum by, so has asked if it would be possible to combine the 3 into one, pay for it, and with any surplus value of gold / stones not used being given to The British Legion .
Can anyone suggest where I can even start because I've really got no clue whatsoever.

The simple answer is pop into a jewellers. There are quite a few on here that will happy give advise too I’m sure (such as ecain63 who is held in high regard on here)

The task you’re asking isn’t a difficult one. Do you have any photos of the rings in question?
The stones and metal can be reused to create a new ring/setting and is all in a days work for someone that knows what they’re doing. Not just a sales staff at a high street chain.
I have had my own stones set by different jewels. Re setting a 5 stone diamond ring with a larger ruby when the middle stone fell out. A single earring, wife lost the other one, turned into a pendant.
Sounds like a great idea to keep the memories alive. Other options are to have the rings repaired and resized to fit if she likes their current style.

Hi,
Thanks Gents, I'll check out the thread mentioned. Being a bit naive when it comes to jewellery I was pretty much in the dark.
As a slight update, we discussed this last night and over breakfast, she wants the solitaire resized (that one is actually fine, nothing missing) and something made from these two.
As you might be able to see, the sapphires have damage but might hopefuly be salvageable , the diamonds perhaps too small to do something with so can go, and perhaps use the larger diamond from the other ring to make something.
My mum was never one for big stones or rings, she much preferred small and subtle stuff on the infrequent occasion she did wear it, preferring necklaces and bracelets, (I think losing her engagement ring down the sink once might have had something to do with it!).
Apologies for the poor pics, they looked fine on the digital camera screen!.

We did something similar some time back with a pair of rings left to my other half. She had them made into a new ring set by a jewellery designer. In our case it wasn't cheap but if the other half is happy that's all that really matters.
As above Eddie would be my first port of call now having seen his work.

We have considered leaving them as is, but Mum was really never one for rings anyway, she has left some lovely necklaces and bracelets to the wife which she would wear all the time.
I did suggest replacing the missing stone in one and keeping the sapphire / diamond ring as is, because as I understand it, it is quite old, but it's not the kind of thing my Mrs would wear on its own.

my wife has 3 rings from when her mother died, so she had them made into a bracelet with the bracelet being silver, and then 3 sets of gold banding, each one from a separate ring, with the diamond from one of them set in the middle.
she never takes it off now, and a number of people have commented on it.
just because there rings, dosent mean they have to stay that way
