A little help please '82 650 Katana...
Discussion
Hi all after suggestions of what may be amiss...
I've got an 82 650 Katana... It's probably one of the best left having done a mere 25k and completely unmodified...
I got it out of very long term store and although performance nothing by today's standards it's a (heavy) joy to ride....
Clutch has been rattly since I got it and with the sun shining yesterday decided to go for a spin...
Clutch just isn't there... clutch in, engage gear and ...thunk.. stall.....
Detaching the cable and moving the gearbox arm and there's no resistance at all....
I'm thinking that the clutch springs have given up the ghost..after all they're a consumable and 36 years old....
But before I go & buy some jis drivers and take it apart anyone care to speculate what may be the issue???
Other than evident rattle clutch worked fine before yesterday so a sudden failure??!
Thanks folks...

Sounds to me like the plates might be stuck together. Is the clutch easy to pull apart on these?
I had it happen on my old Trabant and to free it up I ran it in gear with the front wheels off the ground, had the clutch depressed then dropped the jack to slam the wheels back onto the ground, and freeing up the clutch. Not really something I would recommend with a bike though

Now that just may make sense....hasn't been used for a couple of months....multiple plated wet clutch....so good theory!
I take your warning on fix suggestion though 😁... think I'll get the right drivers a new gasket and have a squint before chasing down guessed parts....
Apparently really easy to do and it's due an oil change regardless....
Just bloody annoying as needed a good run out yesterday....

Same thing happened on my GPZ after a long lay up.
Run it for a while to get the oil circulating and hot, then with the rear wheel off the ground put it in gear.
Mine sorted it's self out with a loud clunk.
It may be fine after this but I replaced the clutch plates as it was slipping at high revs, the plates were slightly corroded and the springs noticeably shorter than the ones I put in.
