what the fuuuuuuckkkkkk

Going to shortly rent out my 2-bed flat. Costs will be either £840 for Additional Licensing Scheme or £540 if I can scrape into Selective Licensing Scheme. I hope to Christ I don't have to pay the 'Mandatory' fee on top of either of the above? Mofo's

Is that just to rent a property or to operate a HMO.

The latter I could understand, the former is just ridiculous.

new set of rules they've basically made anyone apply for a new licence not just what HMO's. now non-HMO's also need megabucks licence bullst. I just worked out they're looking roughly at 16 million quid a year income which is why they have introduced it as they reckon there are 20,000 landlords in brent.

In some London boroughs, the council targeted specific areas so didn't need it for each and every rental, just those in an area.

Have you checked if Brent has areas it's targeting?

Well, I guess they have to justify their existence and keep their pensions topped up. Problem is, it will just drive up rents so the tenants will be the ones paying. Scandalous.

It’s ridiculous.

South Bedfordshire we’re going to do this - then backtracked ( for now ) when everyone protested

yes brent being brent is basically wall-to-wall licensed areas. They hate landlords, people with money, independent means of travel, etc and love wasters

I hear you on the council's methods of whacking landlords!!

https://www.brent.gov.uk/services-for-residents/ho...

Looks like the following areas are being targeted: (copied from their website)

This applies to all privately rented properties, in these selective council wards - Harlesden, Wembley Central, Willesden Green, Dudden Hill, Kensal Green, Kilburn, Mapesbury and Queen’s Park, occupied by a single person, two people or single household.
