Help! Hundreds of bugs in bedroom

We have just a bought a house and it’s been empty for a week or so as we are doing stuff before we move in. My wife just went there, called me, screamed quite a lot and sent me a photo...

I’m on my way there, but any idea what on earth these are?

There's a glut of ladybirds around at the moment. Not much of a picture to go on though.

As others have said I reckon they are ladybirds. Some do appear black with small red marks in them.

We stayed with friends the other weekend who were in the middle of a full-on ladybird onslaught. They're harmless.

Thank you for your replies. Weirdly they were just flies (and some ladybirds admitedly). My daughter took advantage of an empty house and had a party last week and left the window open.

I've never seen so many congregate like that though, most odd. My wife is suitably embarrassed, so all good

Nor me. Whilst I imagine, like most beetles with mandibles, they are capable of delivering a nip when cornered, they're not known to be aggressive (towards humans).

Not aggressive no but they do bite humans and it hurts!

I second this. About the most painful thing I remember being bitten by and that includes my python and a cheetah!

Flies eh? Most likely cluster flies then. Harmless and not as "dirty" as most flies, but they will keep on coming back year after year. They can get in through the tiniest crack. They exude a pheromone to mark their "homes" to which they are incredibly sensitive. Your only hope is to obscure this marker with a specific spray to counter it.

To be fair, they were flies and probably a good couple of hundred of them. She didn't really take note though and just saw lots of crawling things (they weren't flying) and she fled

Yes, I just looked up cluster flies and definitely those. The joys of moving to the middle of a bunch of fields (that and pitiful 20mb Broadband).

On balance, I can safely say I'd prefer being bitten by a ladybird than a cheetah.
