...of fuel that is!

I have a peculiar fueling problem on the Griff which I first noticed by the unusually whiffy exhaust, high fuel consumption and lumpy running. A session on the Crypton analyser has ruled out any air leaks but highlighted the fact that one of the lambda sensors (on the passenger side) was not switching properly. So we swapped the sensors over and have ruled out a dodgy sensor (problem remained on passenger side). The analyser also showed that a few of the HT leads were sub-optimal so we ordered some nice new Magnecor competition leads from ACT. On fitting the leads and replacing the plugs we discovered that 3 of the old plugs on the passenger side were very black indeed. So...now we're thinking that this is most likely an injector problem. Is there anyone out there who has experienced similar probelms and can offer advice?
Assuming it is an injector problem, can anyone suggest somewhere in the Hetfordshire area that would be able to clean my injectors, or failing that where I would source some new/2nd hand ones?

thanks

Matt.

p.s. when I say 'we' what I obviously mean is 'Jason down at the Garage'....all I do is hand over the money . Consequently, any similarity between myself and someone who actually knows what they're talking about is purely coincidental

swapping the sensor does not mean the wiring to the ecu is any good? Make sure the readings are the same either side of the multiplug to the main loom from the sensors.
Try an injector cleaner first before taking them for an ultrasonic clean.

Other than that, good luck

That's true, thanks Paul. The wiring is definitely on the list to be checked, but if it is a dodgy feed from the sensor why would i have just 3 sooty plugs on one side, with the others looking fine?
Interestingly I am also running on a piper cam & have removed the pre-cats (after water destroyed one of them). Can I ask you if you fitted the cone thingys after the pre-cats were removed?

If you do decide to swap the injectors, I can sell you my cleaned and balanced set for less that it cost me to get them cleaned and balanced. (I'm in Warwickshire).

Well the Garage swapped the injectors around over the w/e and the fuelling problem remains rooted on the left (nearside) of the engine. This is the same side that has previously had a water leak on an exhaust port which caused the destruction (by water) of the pre-cat which was subsequently removed. So the engine currently has just one pre-cat. Could the remaoval of the pre-cat from the nearside manifold have anything to do with the fuelling problem?

Just a reminder the symptoms are dirty emissions, poor fuel consumption, erratic idling, non-switching lamda, dirty exhaust.....

Help!
