I know I'm letting myself in for a huge world of pain on here, but I'm always an optimist.

I've found some old pictures of my father from his time in the Royal Navy in the 1950's. He signed up in 1952 at 18 and did over 12 years in the Fleet Air Arm as an Airframe Engineer - starting out on early rotary wing and carrying on to the introduction of jets etc.

I'd really like to be able to get these pictures tidied up etc and be able to have them framed for Christmas - he hasn't seen the pictures in probably 30 or 40 years so it would be a fantastic thing for him.

My photoshop skills are non-existant to the point of actually just frantically mashing buttons and hoping it doesn't look like a refugee from Tate Modern.

Anyone fancy having a go?

I've got them as 600dpi TIFF files, both weigh in over 5Mb. Uploaded to OneDrive.

Done one - how do I return it to you? Here's a low res preview. It's a bit quick and dirty...

I've had a go at one of them so far.

Click on the image to go to flickr to download the full sized image.

It's not great, but I managed to get rid of a few of the creases a bit.

I'll have a go at the other one in a bit.

By the way, thanks so much for the Falklands thread - I'm not linked to the forces, but have read the whole thing, and it's got to be one of, if not the best threads on PH. smile

LOL - shed driver posts this morning with no replies, then we've both been working on this at the same time.

I posted, expecting it to be the only reply only to find you've already replied 10 minutes earlier! smile

The second one looks like a bit more of a challenge! smile

ETA - actually, looking closer it's a lot less damaged......

Did he (your father) serve on Ark Royal, in 1961, by any chance?

Many thanks to you both, virtual tot on its way to you! This is one of the reasons why I absolutely love PH.

No, he was on HMS Victorious - First Commission as part of the SAR flight, on HMS Eagle and then HMS Vidal (a survey ship). Several shore establishments also.

The more I look at these pictures the more dust is getting in my eyes, he will be absolutely made up with these.

This is the first photoshop thread I've seen that hasn't descended into piss-taking. I feel like I've witnessed something significant.

Good work DrSteveBrule and C&C, and OP, thanks for sharing the pictures, I hope your father likes them.

I clicked onto this thread expecting the usual ribald piss-taking comedic renditions of the OP's photo, but instead I found these sterling efforts resulting in greatly enhanced versions of creased and faded originals, all for a worthy outcome.

Great work chaps!

Makes yer proud to witness this good side of PH. bow

And yes, SD, many thanks for one of the best threads on this forum thumbup

Brilliant.

Mrs C&C is wondering why on earth I'm sat here laughing uncontrollably at the screen! The eyes/daft look on the blue one are just perfect! smile

You're welcome, but if you're going to print it I'll do it again with the high resolution one.
