I haven’t moved home for a long time so perhaps out of touch. I’m now selling my late mother’s flat and was surprised to receive a letter from the solicitor requesting £300 in advance to cover ‘Costs and Disbursements’.

Is this normal and/or reasonable?

Do you look like / are you the sort of person who won’t or can’t honour debts?

It’s reasonably normal I think, I have a small deposit upfront when I last bought.

It will be to cover items that them will have to pay out for on your behalf.

£300 on account of these which thryvwill be paying out in the next 14 days max if things go to plan is not a lot.

Then times it by 100 transactions on going for a reasonably busy firm. Now say your business had an overdraft of £20k...

I had to pay upfront for some searches, this was about 16 months ago.
