Ever bought back your old bike?
Discussion
Whilst browsing through eBay this evening I chanced across my old R1 for sale, I sold it about 8 years ago but owned it for 5 years prior to that and it was a great bike. Its only got about 8k more miles on it since then and from the look of it it's likely been garaged as it looks just as good as when I sold it.
Since that day I've spent 5years with a newer model R1, a year with an RSV4 and 2 years with the latest model R1.
I'm tempted to buy the old girl back, I loved it back in the day and I'd run it alongside my nice new R1 as a cheap commuter. So my question is, have any of you ever done something similar and was it a good move, or did you regret it - once the rose tinted specs were off was it a big disappointment?

I haven't, my brother in law has. He bought a Triumph Legend almost new around the turn of the millennium, might have been an ex-demo, I can't remember...he had it fitted with a Mecatwin "Ascot" kit which made it look a bit "tracker" quite a while before the trend hit...he traded it in against something else, the saw it at the same dealer a few years later and bought it back (for a good few quid more than he was paid for it I think!) He rides it more than his Tiger 800 now! I've ridden it a few times, it's a lovely, grumbly old thing. Looks pretty cool, has a great triple growl and goes like stink cos it's quite a bit lighter than a stock bike.

I'd always be worried that the previous owner(s) hadn't given it the care I had and I would just end up with a baggier version of what I had XX years ago.
Yeah that is a concern. I'd be buying it as a cheap commuter bike tho and its always going to feel a bit crap compared to the latest model anyway. Unfortunately the seller is currently ignoring me which doesn't bode well. When I was younger I bought a DT175MX as my only form of transport over winter, sold it in the spring to buy a 350LC.
Bought it back again a few years later to use as a 2nd bike along side my FZR1000.
I sold it to a family friend and knew it hadn't been used much.
About 10 year ago my Dad bought his old BSA A10 which he sold in 1967 - it had been left to rot and since restored, he has finished it now and has put together it's history between 1967 and now - more by chance than research. Again he wasn't looking for the bike when he found it.

Yes, twice.
Swapped a very rare Kawasaki ZX4 for an ER5 plus cash, then bought it back from the next again owner 2 years later after he had thrown it up the road.
Sorted it, sold it, saw it for sale again 6 months later...
Sold a 1976 Honda CB500T in 1996, bought it back again in 2009 from the motorcycle project the guy I sold it to had donated it to.
Had it running once since...
