Hey everyone, I've been away from the UK for a few years (Australia) and now looking at returning regularly for family and possibly of some work. Stupidly I had shut down my accounts etc and now want to open some sort of "basic" bank account, something like a "no fee", "no terms" account, any recommendations??

Thanks,
Neil.

I’d start looking at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking
Nationwide and Santander have “no frills” accounts....
Maybe it would be as easy to open a Monzo or Starling type account. Depends a bit what you need: they are great if it is just cash and debit needs, no cost, free cash withdrawals, contactless card plus phone app.
No sure if you have some UK ID and an address you can use....I imagine without that you may struggle?

We've been with Nationwide since the 80's.

No issues worth mentioning, the online banking works well.

If you want a true 'basic account', here is a good comparison of the options.

I guess that you want something like that because you have no recent history in the UK, having been abroad? Or is it just for user simplicity?
If the latter, there are plenty of good normal current accounts which would do perfectly
