I'm looking at buying a low mileage 2011 bike but it seems like it's first MOT wasn't until 2017 with only 300 miles on it.

Can anyone shed any light on why this might be?

It wasn't used much till 2017?

My 2003 Hornet has only just turned 4k (genuine) miles...

Even if it wasn't used much it should have had an mot in 2014.

Plate is AE11FSX. Doesn't look private

Not if it was just sat in the garage. I had young kids, just didn't use the bike for a few years so no need for an MOT. smile

It did 300 between 2011 and 17 and then 3400 between 17 -18.

I guess I need to find out how many owners and when.

300 miles between new and first MOT, makes me think it just wasn't ridden. Entirely possible in the first 3 years it covered many of those 300 miles.

I'd be more worried about whether it's been serviced as regardless of MOT would need those.

Perhaps bought as a misguided investment, or a work of art for the living room. Dunno, but unless someone's fiddled the miles, the first MOT confirms not far ridden, and hence tallies with no MOT as not ridden.

Pre registered demo that was unsold and sat in a dealer until snapped up for a song in 2017?

Bit of a stretch, maybe an undercover ex police bike (they have a few unmarked sports bikes) however mileage may be too low for that.

Could be a load of things.
