I've been working with salvage cars for a long time now but only really small features on each one, bodywork, chassis work, interiors, this kind of stuff but its always been on newer cars that are majorly electric these days. I want to start a restoration project on an older car like a fiat coupe or an mx. That kind of era. Would like some advice on the best place to get myself the car to start with?
I'd sign up to a couple of the owners forums and clubs for the cars you're interested in.
You'll quickly learn what models to look for, what issues to look out for and many actually have buy/sell sections, which is possibly better than buying a potential doge from the usual auction sites.

As above. You'll get good knowledge from such groups and if you're lucky you may be able to pick up a project that someone else has never got round to or got bored with.
Failing that, I find gumtree, facebook marketplace and even going round the doors of local mechanics are good for this type of thing. You see loads of cars going cheap that have failed MOTs on these places. Not a worry if you're handy.
