slightly different new car (PCP) question
Discussion
I have two cars both for around the same monthly and deposit, one is a diesel and one petrol. Most of our journeys are short with longer trips being done at weekends. - max 7000 a year.
the diesel has a better spec than the petrol and if we wanted the same spec petrol it woul dbe £100-£150/m more.
Would you take the chance that we will do enough miles to allow the diesel to regen etc. or would you stick to petrol?
What will the trade in be in 3-4 years?

Different for me as I'm leasing, so it will go back in 2021 regardless and I don't need to worry about what it's worth. But I had similar concerns when ordering our Disco Sport. I've plumped for diesel, but it's needed a regen about 4 times already I think in the space of 6 months. Which doesn't seem ideal.
I worked on the basis that the Tiguan it replaced had only required a regen about twice in its 2 years with us. Though I'm told by an indie VW client of mine that newer and software-updated ones seem to be requiring more regens.
I think if I was PCPing I'd be inclined towards the petrol.

I would have to agree with the above.
The only issue might be you need to take it on the odd motorway run for 30 minutes if you do not do your long journey. In recent years though DPF's have become better at regenerating over short time spans and at critically lower speed. Revs is not an issue, but you need to run at a constant decent speed above usually above 40 mph for many to do it.
Does the petrol version have a GPF anyway?
