Confused .... logged in but asked to log in ...

OK, so I am logged in and recognised by PH - I am allowed to delete some of my recent duplicate postings or some such activity.
Then I decide to post a reply to a message on a thread and, seemingly randomly, I am prompted to log in. (Not sure how remember me is supposed to work but it seems to have more than one approach.)
Having logged in I find myself back at the Home page but would much rather be back at where I received the login prompt, trying to post a reply.
Is there a way to overcome this?
In a similar but slightly less time consuming vein, posting to a multi-page thread always takes one back to page one rather than the page being responded to (even if responding to the last page or simply making general Post Reply entry.) Slightly frustrating mostly, but can be very frustrating if loading is slowed due to photos and ads.
Apart form "cancel", whioch can take a while to respond sometimes, is there any way around that problem?
