Re: Yippeee! New Battery
Discussion
Since my initial, and admittedly excited, post at finding that my new battery is spinning the old lump over like I'd connected it to the supply from a wind farm, I seem to be benefitting from something unexpected. I thought it worthy of finding an explanation to this phenomenon:
Since doing the usual engine mods (a year ago) and being on the rollers for a set-up, the motor had never wanted to idle from cold. It'd always need a minute or two with a foot on the gas to prevent a stall (steady 950 RPM when warm). This I'd always put down to the H404 lumpy shaft or perhaps the ECU not getting cold running feedback. I lived with it as it wasn't a big problem. Since the new battery was installed this has no longer been an issue.
Although the old battery was of slightly lower crank rate and amp hr than recommended, until the last six weeks or so, the battery had always maintained a good charge and cranked adequately. The battery leads were secure and electrolite levels correct.
I understand that the injectors are sensitive to voltage, needing a good 12V to operate at their best, but my motor is a peach producing more torque than Fred Dibdobs 1918 Aveling Porter. If the motor is turning the engine over, would this not indicate a battery healthy enough for the injectors?
What's goin' on there then coz I aint complainin' ?
P.S the electrolite made for a b****y good patio cleaner and snail disolver (not condoning this)!
