12 points on totting up system
Discussion
I've just collected 3 points for 82 in a 70 bringing my total up to 12.
What is my best course of action?
It's in North Yorkshire and I did a speed awareness course just over 3 years ago. My other points are for 42 in a 30, 45 in a 30 and, I think, over the 60 limit by Les than 10mph. All the rest were within the last 18 months.
Technically I'm eligible for another speed awareness course but given 9 points already will one be offered?
Obviously I'd rather not go to court and loose my license for 6 months minimum.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Pulled out to overtake a truck who was doing just under 70
"Truck", doing north of 56mph...?You sure it wasn't just a <3.5t van...?
Anyway, irrelevant.
If you're offered a course, you're offered a course. "Want doesn't get", in the words of everybody's mother, so no point in asking for one. If not, then it's court and plead for your licence.

Appreciate that. Have read about people sending in grovelling letters with their initial contact saying how sorry they were and that they would welcome a speed awareness course.
Worth a shot?
Honestly, no. Worth a shot?
Things are very black and white when it comes to this. You are either allowed one or not.

Irrelevant right now!
Here was me thinking, "new replies! Some thoughtful help has meybe arrived."
What to do is the question, not how it happened.
Cheers.

I thought there was only an issue with eligibility to take a fixed penalty when you're on 9 points, and that's because it would take you to 12.
No issue with the number of points you have if you can take the course.
(I think!)
Shouldn’t be a problem to do a course.

Righto chap. Unless this was going westbound down Barton Hill on the 64 then I call BS.
Haha, local knowledge. The cops love that hill. Never speed there, and always cover the brake with eagle eyes on tail lights ahead. It was a dangerous junction at the bottom until recently, I wonder if the cops still frequent the spot now that it is much safer.
Probably a nice little earner for them....
Edit to add: if the op has totted up so many points, they clearly have a problem with driving safely. Hopefully whatever punishment comes their way teaches them to look after their license and other road users in the future.

How many times a month do we see the "Obey the speed limit" reply on threads like this?
Even sitting on 9 points I doubt one single person spent an entire 2 or 3 years without EVER exceeding the limit.
I talk from experience after 3, yes THREE totting up suspensions.
Did I ever drive dangerously? No
Was I that w
ker that flouted laws for the hell of it? No
Were any of my points for ridiculous speed? No
I drove huge miles annually, was a courteous road user, highly anticipating and perceptive but once every 15 to 20 thousand miles I'd get nabbed and that was enough to tot up.
I once drove 350 miles to a destination, all on legal speed cruise control, then, less than half a mile from my destination I punched it out of slow corner, maybe 3 or 4 seconds of full throttle in a deserted 30 zone, I got pinged at 59, recieved a big fine and enough points to put me over.
I hold my hands up, yes I did it and accepted the consequences but we're not on this forum to discuss how to eradicate those who make pace with consideration.
Do I now drive a Nissan Micra and dodder around at 55 in the middle lane?
No, but I pick my moments carefully

I pick my moments carefully too.
I save my 29 mph over the speed limit for track days in my TVR.
I just choose not to use the public road and its speed limit zones for my fits of exuberance.
To me, keeping at a sensible speed on the roads is about safety and consideration to others, not about obeying the law.
So that's two different views. At least living in a free country we can express them freely.
My last speeding fine was in 1986.

Going on the SAC does seem to be delaying the inevitable and I would expect the OP to be posting a similar thread a few months from now.
If the rules allow a course to be offered then take advantage of it but under the circumstances it doesn't seem to be the most appropriate response to the OP's persistant speeding.

You can't be that perceptive if you have been caught that many times.Even sitting on 9 points I doubt one single person spent an entire 2 or 3 years without EVER exceeding the limit.
