Hi everyone

I will soon own a mk3 cortina pickup and would like to put a v6 in her. Think I would like the v6 duratec 3.0 ( mondeo v6 ) or the Jaguar aj30. But not sure what gearbox would be best. It was a 1.6 originally but not sure of the 4speed gearbox. The 5 speed type 9 Sierra v6 box would be good I’m thinking. Is this possible? Or is there a better gearbox to use? Don’t want to cut or bend the tunnel in anyway. If I can help it. Happy to make anything to fit it all (bracket). Looking for your ideas.

Where do I stand with the emissions ?

Also a straight swap over to upgrade the brakes on the mk3 cortina pickup?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

The easier swap would be a 2.9v6 from a Granada Scorpio.
The have engine will be set up for RWD but you'll need the management and the trans to make it all work easily.
Brakes Granada hubs should fit....

I seem to recall them having fairly beefy brakes, after all they came 5.0 V8s in their country of origin I think?

The Jag engine will be set up for RWD surely?

Jag V6 is around 240BHP as standard which will be too much for a standard Type 9. Quite a few S Types came with the V6 & a decent (Getrag) manual box & they fetch peanuts secondhand.
Have a look at the Rocketeer MX5 conversion which uses the V6 Jag with the MX5 box. Also deals with the management.

Easier yes..but it's still a crappy old iron engine.

Yes it would but where’s the fun it that. 😁. The 2.9 only gives 150 Bhp.

I did think about using the jag box. But not sure if the gearstick. would pop up through the original hole. As I would like to keep the bench seat and wouldn’t if it moves backwards. As for the mx5 box I have no clue.

Yeah good choice. Fit a 2 ton boat anchor that's as rare as hen's teeth these days, a bugger to tune and with less bhp than a Zetec with carbs.

A quick google of said V6...

http://www.rocketeerltd.com/engine-specification-j...

Aimed at an MX5...but that alone should make it easier to adapt to other vehicles, just source an MX5 gearbox etc.

When someone offers lots of parts off the shelf for a conversion, it will make life a lot easier.

Or another range of 6cyl engines, fairly compact and if you can get a suitable transmission for a conventional rwd layout....the VR6 range from VW.

Whether the very old 2.8 or 2.9, or the more complicated R30 etc variants.

I'm fitting the AJ30 to my TVR S .... just took the engine out of the Jag yesterday. I'm using the Jag manual box which is 5 speed but has a direct top gear same as a 4 speed type 9. The box is quite small and very light as ally casing. I have a thread on the TVR S Series page. A couple of others have fitted the AJ30 to theirs - Blue30 and Damian

I am also transplanting one of these engines . I am using an Emerald ecu but has anyone got an easy may of controlling the fuel pressure as I believe the jaguar ecu currently does the job .

A fuel pressure regulator would be a good start...

It works on most cars.

Fuel pump/filter out of tank, piped to vac operated FPR on fuel rail, spillback to tank.

Yes , but I was lazily hoping someone had found one that bolted on to the end of the fuel rail .

I really doubt it would be that hard to adapt something. Even if it took 60 seconds or so.
