Hi All,

I have recently bought a Panasonic TX-50EX750B and am very happy with it except for one thing; each time I turn it on I have to manually select the "Home Cinema" option to get the audio routed away from the TV speakers and on to my Yamaha receiver.

If TV tuner is left in Pause mode for a while this also happens.

Any idea if there is a way to make it permanently default to the amp?

On our 50EX700 I turned the TV speakers OFF in the menu, always uses the soundbar now.

That's what I've done with my TX55vt50b plasma.

Also worth checking if one of the HDMI inputs on the TV is marked ARC. Always use this one when connecting to an Amplifier. On My Samsung its HDMI 3 bizarrely.

Using ARC means the TV speaker will be turned off and if using the TV as the source it'll route the audio to the amp.

ARC is HDMI 2 on my Pannny.

And ARC is working as I can see the Yamaha receiver set up menus on the TV

I've tried the same thing but the TV always goes back to "TV Speakers"

I have similar with an older model Panasonic plasma TV and Onkyo AV receiver, but it only does it occasionally (and then I have to go into the tv 'viera menu' to change it back). The first time took a while to figure out what was happening because the tv speakers were turned right down so I was getting no sound at all. banghead

It seems more likely to do it if I turn the TV on before the receiver or before the source is active, usually its ok if source and amp are connected and active before the tv is on.

I'll have a look and see if there is a tv speakers off option in the menu as suggested above too.

Thinking about it see if there is a setting on the amp to toggle HDMI control. The amp should really switch off and on with the TV but this sometimes screws up if the timings for each device are weird.

Try the other setting

I found it really confusing. Having said that it's the first time I've actually used a TV tuner + ARC rather that have a Virgin/Sky/Humax box as a tuner plugged into the back of the amp.

The TV tuner is the source. The TV seems to decide to go back to "TV Speaker" mode if it's been switched off or left in Pause.

Yeah there is - the TV just keeps overriding it.

I did go through the amp set up menus at the beginning (I had to go in there to turn ARC on). Once I'd done that and switched the TV to "Surround Sound" mode all was good.

I can see that ARC protocol itself is working as I can see the amp set menus on TV screen and when I select "Surround Sound Speakers" on the TV sound menu that action fires up the amp.

It's just that if the TV is left unattended it seems to go back to TV speaker mode.

I'll have another fiddle about but if I can't see anything obvious at least it's only a few clicks to get the sound going back to the amp.

Irritating, though. These sorts of basic configs should really be once and done. Why on earth would you ever want to listen to the TV speakers if you got a surround sound set up bought specifically for that purpose?
