I have an engine that has been stuck (unused for a while, probably damp). It was running fine before it was left.
I have dismantled it, pushed out the pistons & con-rods. They were very tight in the cylinders and the little ends stiff as well.
I am concerned that there may be some damage to the bores that was caused by the seizure or that they may have been damaged in the process of getting the pistons out. There is nothing obvious.
Should I hone the bores before refitting the pistons or is there some less abrasive way of making sure they are OK?

If you can't see any damage then just oil things up to get free movement and mignon's your uncle ;-)

Is there a lip at the top of the bore? IF so, then may be needs a rebore, but if not, fine.
But now you have the pistons out, worthwhile fitting new rings - which will need the bore honing. This is not 'abrasive' in that it doesn't widen the bore, just leaves a patteren of fine scratches in the surface to aid oiling on start up. New rings will improve seal and power, and aren't costly.

Measure the ring gaps in the bores. If they're still within spec you can reuse them. 15-20 thou is normal. Anything over 30 thou is probably toast. If you fit new rings you can do a poor man's honing by hand. Get some 80 grit wet and dry. Work the bores at 45 degrees to the horizontal in both directions to get a cross hatch pattern. You only need to do the top 3 inches.
