Mk6 golf bluemotion 140 vs Mk6 golf gtd 140
Discussion
Hello all, I’m looking at a mk6 Golf bluemotion 2.0 tdi 140bhp with all the gtd extras, interior and bumpers etc. With £30 road tax, more economical and cheaper insurance.
Ideally I was looking at mk6 golf gtd 170 or 140 I know the different between these two are turbo, injectors and brake disc. But what are the different between the bluemotion 140 and the gtd 140? Information more on engine, performance and reliability is what I’m looking for
Thankyou

There is no mk6 GTD 140 - it only comes in 170 form. The GT is the highest trim level of the 2.0 TDI 140 engine. I ran one for almost 60k over 3 years and had no mechanical issues (apart from usual wear and tear). I drove it pretty hard and averaged high 40’s but it would easily do 60+ mpg on a run. Plenty of torque to overtake, I don’t think the 170 GTD would be that much of a step up.
Not certain on this but I think the increased economy of the bluemotion 140 model VW claim is purely down to the smaller alloys. The standard GT comes with 17’s, the bluemotion with 16’s. The GT has tinted rear light clusters and lowered suspension by 10 mm, both of which the bluemotion equivalent doesn’t have (I think!). Not sure on an interior comparison but the normal GT also has alcantara seats.
Edit: Noticed you got a more comprehensive answer in the other thread you started!! You should be sorted now.

There never was a gtd 140 it must be a car kitted up to look like one.
Normally that’s only done if it’s been in a smash, as there’s no economical reason to do it yourself.
2.0 tdi 140 in the mk6 is the same whether in an SE, match or GT spec.
The difference between the bluemotion and non bluemotions are stop/start, regenerative braking and it’s possible they might have different gear ratios (not 100% on that though). Otherwise the engine is the same
On the GT and GT bluemotion, aside from the above the BM car has 16 inch wheels for economy.
If you want a GTD I’d personally get a GTD. I did and now I’ve got rid I miss it. The interior is much nicer with the bucket seats.
They are all reliable, the only issues with them is sometimes the DPF sensors can fail which can lead to DPF light coming on (but the DPF is ok).
Generally they are reliable as long as they are serviced.

DPF Differential Pressure Sensor I believe.Edited by SteBrown91 on Wednesday 17th October 13:17
I replaced one on my VAG 2.0 tdi the other day. Made a mistake of buying off from e-bay and it didn't fix the issue, even though it was new and did look identical. Went to Audi and bought one from them for 3x the price and it solved the issue.

Thankyou for response, So the 140 blue motion and 140 gt tdi, the differences are just mainly body and interior looks etc. As far as we know for now. But what I don’t understand is if that’s they are the reasons then why is the co2 on the bluemotion 114 and co2 on the gt tdi is 129?
It will be due to the start/stop system of the bluemotion. Power is identical as SteBrown91 has said. It's not actually a proper Bluemotion model, hence it's branded as 'Bluemotion Technology'
They just added stop/ start and tweaked a few things to lower CO2 and improve MPG. You could get a GT in this version but it came with smaller 16in alloys. That's the main visual change.
As other posters have mentioned the GTD is a whole different model and 170 only
Things got easier with the Mk7 as everything became 'Bluemotion Technology' as standard.
