So had the car for a year , not done that many miles but I can't bear the thought of not changing the oil and filter. I will do it myself but seem to be told conflicting things as to viscosity 0-40 seems to be where I'm heading , but any comments gratefully received .

If you change the oil yourself it is likely Porsche will know when the car is next in an OPC furthermore this could affect the warranty terms and the likelihood is it will substantially affect the residual value of the car.

Is it worth it for a few hundred £s?

TBH its nothing to do with saving a few hundreds , my personal facilities , tools and expertise are more than adequate . Plus I will know that the oil drain has been done hot, I suspect most OPC oil drains are not done hot , the car is simply driven in from the yard and likley done cold.
Of course the oils will be changed by my OPC at the recomended time , but I cant live with 2 years or 20k miles, or trust an OPC with a cold oil change !

Ok basically I think it comes down to how long you are keeping the car for and whether the advantages of you knowing the job has been done to your high levels of satisfaction and whether this outweighs any possible warranty compromises.

Nice garage btw!

I suspect you are too believing of your OPC smile

I am not sure there are any warranty implications of who does the oil change - in fact during the manufacturer warranty period there is a nice EU regulation that means you can take your car anywhere as long as the right oil and right amount of oil is put back in engine and the drain plug screwed on (or whatever the basic procedure is) smile

I'd be willing to bet the OPC wouldn't even have a clue you changed the oil yourself as long as you use the right filter as long as it came back to them for the required servicing in the required schedule (I thought the gt cars were annual servicing actually...). In theory you merely need a porsche A40 oil to keep in manufacturer spec but the mobil 1 0w40 probably isn't a bad choice to stick to anyway.

Not sure if it changed (back) for 991.2 GT3 but the 991.1 cars are due an oil change ("oil service") every year, irrespective of mileage. I think the cars were on the standard two-year interval at launch and that the annual change regime was introduced after the, ahem, gen 1 issues started to emerge.

So potentially, if the situation is the same for gen 2 cars, that you'd be missing an OPC service stamp in the book at the one year point if you do it yourself.

Obviously not an issue if the gen 2 cars are back on the usual Porsche two-year interval and in that case you are free, of course, to have an interim oil change carried out wherever, and by whoever, you want so long as Porsche or Porsche-approved materials and their process is followed.

991.1 GT3 schedule is every two years for oil change or 20,000 miles - it is no different to my wifes Cayman. My Porsche 2 year warranty has just been renewed by the the OPC on this basis for my 991.1 GT3 and no mention has ever been made of a 1 year interval? What makes you think it is one year?

To the OP, it is fine and nice garage cool - I can't see how doing you own oil change early assuming all correct Porsche approved parts are used can effect your warranty - its a consumable. What next, my washer fluid can't be changed unless Porsche do it, my tyres need to be topped up by Porsche etc etc smile

Meh. Where's he keep all his clutter and bullst?

Case in point last night being an old mtb axle that was used as a drift to silence an errant carbon monoxide detector that had gone rogue.

I had a running in oil service done by RPM at about 1500 miles. Didn’t use my OPC because RPM are closer and can do that can kind of job on a Sat morning...and obviously can be trusted to do it properly! Oh and the car was hot!
