44 Teeth incur the wrath of the Swiss Police
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL3v-VvmRhs

For anyone who doesn't believe how 'tough' they are on any sort of misbehaviour esp on bikes watch the above.

Beautiful roads and scenery.. just not for enjoying yourself on a bike as myself and my group found with just a 300 swiss franc slap on the wrist each!

They are not alone - a few winters ago drove through at what I thought was under the speed limit and got a 600SF fine

Ouch!

I have to agree with their commentary, reluctantly.

I used to love Euro trips to the Alps and went pretty much once a year in the summer.

Now forget it, it's just not worth the bother, even if you intend to obey their misery speed limits. You can't enjoy the lovely scenery watching the speedo all the time.

I now feel the same about France - the new speed limit is a bloody joke.

Shocking!....on a similar theme, my friend had a recorded delivery on Monday, after he signed for it, once opened the letter contained a speeding ticket from Italy...

I watched this last night, a few km more and he would have lost the bike.

That said the B500 in episode 2 looked like a lot of fun.

I can't actually see the point in a motorcycle in Switzerland for anything more than city commuting (however it wouldn't surprise me to find that filtering is illegal).

It is or doesn't seem to be 'liked' lol Not that it stopped me applying full London filtering mode when I was there with my touring group - much to the disgust of some of the Swiss drivers, I'm being serious tooting their horns gesticulating at me wink

Actually felt pretty bad for the guy - 4 grand is no joke. Even put my hand in my pocket for a sticker, having watched and enjoyed loads of their vids.

PS. go #TeamF4!

The only people who believe speeding isn't a problem in Switzerland (in terms of the punishment) are those who haven't been caught (yet).

When I first moved to Switzerland I wondered why there were so many Harley's there. Soon realised that if you have to restrict yourself to 80 kmh then no point in having something that handles well and goes quickly.

No doubt Ho Lee Kau will be along to tell us it is alright...

do I get it right that they were doing 144kph in what could only be an 80kph zone at a maximum?

I've done many many kms in the Alps and not been stopped like that.....but I also know the range in which I can "pay and go faster" and afford it and would speed accordingly.

From a biker in Switzerland, I see the fun they were trying to have but they were nearly double the limit.

I think what is possibly just as shocking is the van getting a 100 SF fine for doing 82 KPH so 2 KPH over ...

The same mentality exists in New Zealand, I was fined for 102kph in a 100kph limit, copper was deadly serious.

Yeah the B500 through the Black Forest is fantastic. Head there through Germany and avoid Switzerland.

Lovely fast road. The Germans do crash a bit when it's wet though.

He got a 4k CHF fan and was nearly banged up for eighty something MPH on a pretty empty road.

Do it through a town, sure, throw the book at 'em.

I have a bike in Switzerland and enjoy it a lot. There are a few key things that help the enjoyment:

1) Don't speed in towns or on the straights (they're the least fun bit anyway), save it for the twisty bits and enjoy the scenery on the rest. There are many areas where you will struggle to go at the limit, and the speed cameras are never in the twisty bits.

2) Do a scouting run on a pass before going double the speed limit on it.

3) Stick to 100kmh or less in the 80 areas if you want to avoid an expensive fine and don't want to be careful looking out for cameras.

4) Cameras are often in the tunnels

Now for why bikes are very popular for people living here:

1) So many great circuits are less than 2 hours from my front door.

2) The Black Forest (the B500 is truly rubbish, the side roads are all way better!), and the best roads (the Alp /Dolomite areas) in France, Italy and Austria are all so close that we just pop over the border if we want to misbehave.

3) We know where all the speed control areas are .

It's the best place to own a motorcycle in my opinion as you have all of the best riding roads in the world and some spectacular tracks so close together. If you know the region well then you also know when and where you can misbehave.

All throughout Europe the police are getting stricter on speeding. In Germany you also get fined for just going over the limit, in France they have hidden cameras in unmarked cars to catch you speeding, and the British government will hand over your full details to anyone that asks for it. Long gone are the days when Brits can just go over to Europe and race on the public roads, you need to use your noggin these days is you want to "have fun".

I like these guys' channel, very interesting reviews, brilliant stuff.

As far as speeding ticket is concerned...to be honest I do not understand what the problem is. Limit is 80 and he did 144. That's almost 2x.

In UK the police would pat him on the head for this, and in France he would also get a complementary bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape, for sure! hehe

"I thought it was unrestricted", haha!
I was surprised the Swiss policeman did not laugh in his face, I admire his composure. hehe

That's the road to Grimselpass. Magnificent road!
I've been there a dozen times this year, seen cameras, seen police. Got flashed for 40CHF (in village wink) once and got escorted to police station once (lost numberplate on Nufenenpass, but I could prove I was not trying to evade speed laws so did not suffer any consequences).

I know why they went 144 on that road, it's an awesome road where 144 feels just about right, but 144 on that road is a bold move, and if you make that move you better know what you could be in for.

The guys have been to Switzerland many a time, rephrasing Vince Vega "they should have fking better known better" that one does NOT do 2x in or after tunnel (maybe unless there is a looong line of bikers before you doing the same).

Agree with me, the only way to teach people is to hit them where it hurts - in the wallet. It applies not only to speed limits, it applies to everything.
That is why I like Switzerland and I am not even Swiss. Moreover Switzerland is the only real democracy in continental Europe.

You mean in UK it is allowed to do 2x speed limit on public roads?

We have increasing number of motorbikers in Switzerland, from year to year, very noticeable.
Yes, filtering IS illegal, like in many other countries. Can you filter? Yes, just be smart about it (filtering over uninterrupted white line when there is a policeman standing further away looking at you is not a good idea, obviously), same applies to speed limits.

So how would you set speed limit fines then, pray?

It's 80 limit, camera has 6-7 kmh "error margin" at that speed that is deducted, so, if after deduction you do 81, well, st happens.
I've been through 1kmh speed limit breach&fine and it sucks, but I do not find it shocking.

Ahh I see, I apologise, I assumed the speed that they were charged with was a true speed not a "made up" one ..
