Hi

I have a BMW F01 2014 with Air Suspension

The air suspension has packed up a couple of days ago, so the rear is pretty much resting on the tyres, makes for an interesting drive, pretty much like a go kart smile

So I took the vehicle into a main dealer today, and whilst booking it in for service, they were telling me that it has MOT Protection, and that when the next MOT is due I should take it to BMW, because they'll fix anything thats not consumable that causes MOT failure.

So, me being me says, oh ok, so lets stop here, can I book an MOT please.

They said umm, you have 10 months remaining, and I said, well yes but I'd like to do one early as I'm pretty sure its going to fail on that suspension.

I KNOW its cheeky, but the T&C's for that coverage say nothing about early MOT's, only that it has to be within 60 months of registration

The manager denied it after speaking to BMW somewhere, but they cant offer up any T&C's beyond the standard MOT protection T&C's that don't prevent such...

What do you guys think?

J.

Standard MOT protect terms I had given to me and read since , applicable to a BMW Approved Used Car, confirm you can’t bring car for MOT more than 30 days before MOT is due.

The wording is the same as posted here.

This was a new purchase in 2014, and wasnt part of their used programme.

I guess I'm hoping that this applies

MOT Protect

BMW MOT Protect is now included on all BMW models so, in the unlikely event that your BMW fails its first MOT test, replacement parts and labour are covered on a long list of key items from electrical and lighting equipment to steering and suspension. Any issues will be addressed promptly and completely free of charge so you can land your MOT certificate with the minimum of fuss.

What’s more, since January 1st 2013, BMW models registered with our Service Inclusive or Service Inclusive Plus packages now benefit from an extended MOT Protect cover level. This enhancement extends the same cover level of MOT Protect to both the 2nd and 3rd MOT also.

Terms and Conditions

MOT Protect cover will rectify any technical issues described here after that cause the vehicle to fail its second and third MOT which will be due no later than 48 and 60 months from the date of first registration. MOT Protect is included within the Retailer Warranty for the first MOT at 48 months in Northern Ireland.

All items will be covered with the exception of the windscreen, wheels, tyres and items replaced as part of routine servicing (e.g. brake disks and pads) modified and/or non BMW components. The cost of the MOT test, re-test and advisories will not be covered neither will failure as a result of neglect or adjustments and damage resulting from impact or accident, or faulty repair of any item be covered. Vehicles used for competitions, racing, pace making, or rallies are excluded.

The MOT repair work has to be carried out by a BMW Authorised Retailer Workshop within 30 days of the MOT inspection failure.

The vehicle must have a complete service history according to Manufacturer’s criteria.

Okay , I wrongly assumed this was used. wink

Well, they clearly haven’t “closed the door” in those terms as they have with the used cars.

I like what you’re saying. It is unusual to do a MOT early , but an owner could have a genuine reason; they could be thinking of selling car perhaps ? That’s a common occasion when MOTs are done early. And the argument could be , why should those owners miss out.

The way I read your first post , they brought the matter up. So why not ask!

Keep pushing for this MOT. I think they will resist , it creates a precedent, but if you keep at them (maybe go to BMW UK) they might find a more palatable way to fix your problem at no cost to you.
