Audi want £400 for a basic service!

My wife’s A3 1.4 is due it’s first service and Audi want the exorbitant fee of £400 for an oil and filter change.

My Leon Cupra 300 is only £169 for the same service at a Seat dealer, for what is essentially the same car (agreed the engine is different, but the work carried out is the same).

Is this the same across all Audi dealers or am I being ripped off?

My local dealer charge the same for cars under 3 years old. My 2.0 TDI was recently serviced for £400 too. I think they knocked 10% off.

Older cars qualify for fixed price servicing at around £150 which is pretty good, but they want you to buy a service package for new stuff.

Find a good vw specialist.

I used to pay 112 quid for a minor and 220-230ish for a major

Yup, it's rip off Audi.

They gave me a discount after haggling and telling them I'm going elsewhere.

Wanted £358

Paid £258

Serviced my wife’s 1.8t myself. £30 all in for 5L oil and filter, genuine VW parts too.

I guess the main dealer stamp is the most important thing in your case.

Find a decent Indie, any VAT registered one can service it and as long as they use genuine VAG parts it won't affect any warranty..though that might not continue to be the case when we exit the EU..so best be quickbiggrin Yet another possible consequence of the vote leave fkwits

Ask for a price supplying your own oil. I never paid that much to service an RS4 so that’s taking the piss royally. They used to charge £30/litre and that thing took 10l, I would buy the oil off eBay for £6/l and leave it in the boot for them.

Supposedly. You’ve got residuals to think of, too.

TBH from the horror stories I hear on a number of Audi forums etc, I personally would be happier with a decent Indie FSH than a dealership, however I know I am probably in the minoritythumbup

Find a good Indie - I've been taking my last two A4 3lTDI avant's to one near Newmacher for years now; good service, have always carried out the work needed, £15 loan car and prices a fraction of the main dealer. Sure my last service was not much over £130. They also have access to the Audi service logging software so the online service history is all done.

I've only been into a main dealer twice in 8 years; the first time to look at a car - which turned out to be a 2 litre A6 and not the 3 litre A4 discussed on the phone ("I thought you'll love the extra roon in the A6" as his feeble excuse), and the second visit for a heater recal last year; an iritating experience with them trying to fob me off with needing new discs and pads all-round, and then being two hours late in having the car ready.

My TT (15-plate) is in next week for an interim service and I think they quoted £170 which seemed reasonable to me.

The trick is generally to try a few dealers as they'll always price match each other. Unfortunately the car is too new really to take outside the Audi network without risking repercussions.

To my knowledge, Audi servicing costs are publicly available on the website. Also it's a more premium marque than Seat so it's going to be more expensive.

However Audi price match any servicing costs - from their website:

"We will price match any like-for-like written quote for a service, maintenance, repair or new tyres from any garage/repairer within a 15 miles radius of your Audi Centre. If it includes Audi Genuine Parts and the correct oil, we guarantee you won’t pay a penny more for the same job at Audi."

An oil and inspection service shouldn't run you more than £250 on that engine. Ensure that whoever you use can log the service digitally on Erwin (Digital Service Schedule) as it not being on there *could* cause confusion come a warranty claim later. A good number of specialists can do this now.

A £100 oil change at a tin-shed garage is tempting on cost grounds but that's not the same as a service by someone that knows what they're doing.

I had my S4 serviced at an Audi dealer last year, along with the first MOT as it was still in warranty. IIRC it cost around £400 including brake fluid change and said MOT which I didn't think was too bad.

This year I got the MOT done by them as I had the MOT 'warranty' (FWIW) from the previous year but they quoted me over £500 for the service (inspection plus pollen filter) and then wanted another £120, reduced to £60 as a 'goodwill gesture', to investigate a minor problem that they identified on the MOT, making it a shade under £600.

I took it to an excellent independent who did the whole job for £189, fully logged on the Erwin digital service network. Only downsides were a little further to travel, no 'free' courtesy car and no bacon sandwich or fancy cappuccino machine.

My Wife then spent the £400 saving on a new handbag, earning me some valuable brownie points - everyone's a winner... smile

Thank you for all the suggestions.

It’s a lease car so no worries on residuals.

Will try the price match trick first, and failing that I have been recommended a specialist.

Don’t mind paying a bit extra for Audi but £200 odd quid extra is just a joke.

You are being ripped off, but are you sure the services are the same - is the SEAT on fixed interval servicing and the Audi on variable?

Regarding price match, someone on here a week or two ago got Audi to price match Halfords!

Just had the 1st Oil service on my S5 done.

Milton Keynes Audi quoted £379, Bedford Audi (15 mins drive further away) quoted £263.

Guess who got the work.

Will the lease company allow it to be serviced other than by a franchised dealer?

Might of been me a couple of months ago, Jardine Audi agreed to match the Halfords Autocente price for a brake fluid change in my case
