Mini Hatchback - Whats the story?

Came across this on FB, a quick google didn't really elicit any great detail another than a Dutch book- any Mini aficionados tell me the story?

Hatchback conversion on the mini is straight up awesome.

I know they experimented with a lot of this kind of stuff - I recall some photos of an 1100/1300 with a hatchback in a book I used to borrow from the library.

The super duper Hooper Cooper! It's been restored at least twice since Ringo had it, it was Rolls Royce Regal Red all over and still had it's exterior seams intact...



At George's bungalow in Esher in '68, not long after they came back from India, with George's psychedelic Radford behind...


Like George's Radford it has VW rear lights (Lennon's and McCartney's Radfords both had Aston DB5 rear lights), this now belongs to Christian Horner and Gerri Halliwell...

This car still exists, it was on display as a 'work in progress' at the Mini Cooper Register day at Beaulieu back in June.

Makes me feel old when I remember the articles about all the special build minis back in the 60s and 70s . In the 70s I used to drive past the Wood and Pickett workshops every week day and see all the latest mini and Range Rover customs . Before they went all mail order and accessories suppliers.
