Mulling over what to get my nipper for Christmas. He’s 4 and started playing games on his iPad and gets the concept of them now and is building his coordination. I’ve tried him in my PS4 but that’s too much/the controller is too big!

So we were wondering about the Nintendo Switch? Mrs ADogg used to have a Wii back in the day and liked it, we’ve a big area where we can play it, but I don’t want to buy it and it not be used for a bit as it’s too advanced - like our Tamiya MadBull I bought him when he was 3...

Thanks in advance!

My two were smashing the Wii well before 4, albeit on the easier stuff like Sports Resort and Mario Kart. Switch hasn't made it here yet but it's an option for this xmas. They've graduated to the xbox with Fifa etc, which is handy as I now have GTA, Assetto Corsa, Far Cry and eagerly awaiting Red Dead.

The switch is a fantastic device. My 14 year old son plays all the time on it and I haven’t seen anything involving killing prostitutes or soldiers yet. A lot of his friends have one and they have online tournaments together,
Younger kids would have a blast with its, they’re a lot of simpler games which you could join in with.

The Switch is a great device, some great games for kids and some really good titles. I bought mine to play Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and it was worth the asking price just to play that game alone. It's a great device in that you can play it on the dock on a big TV and it looks great, then pick the handheld part up and seamlessly start playing on that. I travel for work so I take mine with me so I can carry on the games I've been playing at home when I'm on planes or trains or in hotels.

If you're going to let a kid play on it just make sure you attach the screen protector to keep their greasy fingers off it. I wouldn't worry about the games being too hard or whatever, I could comfortably beat Sonic the Hedgehog before I was five years old, so you don't necessarily need to give them kiddie games. Dark Souls Remastered might be a bit tough for them though.

My son has a Switch great bit of kit, don't think I would be buying a 4 year old one. Unless it was really for myself smile

The Switch is fantastic, but I'm not sure it's robust enough for a 4 year old when handheld, which limits you having it hooked up to a TV. It's great here too, but honestly for a 4 year old I'd spend the money on a Wii or WiiU, and a few of the best games. I think you could get 2 years of fun out of a WiiU for a lot less, and I think the controllers would be a bit more robust.
