Help needed with Electro acoustic guitar selection

I'm an occasional guitar player and really enjoy my Simon & Patrick Acoustic which I've had for a number of years. Its full bodied and I like playing it, but I've promised my self an electro acoustic for some time and I'm in a position to buy one.
What I'm looking for is an electro-acoustic cutaway which is no more than 500GBP, but ideally less. What I'd like to play on it is Nick Drake songs, 90's indie like the Wonder Stuff, and classics such as Del Amitri
I'd like a smallish amp to go with it as it's for personal use rather than playing with others although we live away from others, so I can make as much noise as I like.
Musical likes have changed from Neds Atomic dustbin, to The Boo Radleys, I am arrows, Oasis, Tired Pony, The Manics, The Smiths, Barnaby Bright, Nick Drake, so reasonable eclectic
I've thought about a Yamaha APx600 or an Yamaha FGX800C
What I'm looking for are some suggestions on what to go and try at a shop. I've not been in a guitar shop in nearly 20 years and so would like an idea of what might work with what I want to play before going in.

I did a similar thing a few years ago, albeit my budget was £1500. I spent a few hours playing Martins, Taylors, Takemines etc and chose what I thought sounded best, which ended up being a Taylor 314ci.
I'd possibly go a play a few under £1000 mark at your local store and would then consider looking out for used versions of these guitars and see if you can get one closer to your budget. There seems to be a big difference in price between laminate backs and solid backs and I think a new £500 laminate back wouldn't be as good as a used solid wood.

I worked for a large music store for a while.
Those Yamaha apx are terrible in my opinion. Sound really thin unless they’re plugged in & have a very generic electro acoustic tone when plugged in.
The Taylor 114ce is a cracking all rounder as is the Yamaha ls16.
If you’re looking for that Nick Drake tone try out an all Mahogany. I’ve got a guild m120e & it is very much the tone Nick had. Sounds stunning with his alternate tunings. Admittedly it’s not as nice a tone once plugged in, few are though.

The cork sniffers out there will insist an “all solid” guitar is the only way to go but I just go of how each individual instrument feels.
I’d trade a bit of tone for a more playable guitar.
Just try them all. Different body shapes, necks, woods & don’t led by the brand name. Let us know how you get on 👍🏻
