Wife’s R32

Won’t bore you with details, but the wife has always been into cars, it’s how we met and she currently sells BMWs at our local main dealer.

This came into her work a few weeks ago as a trade in, she has always wanted one since they came out in 2005, and this was an opportunity too good to pass up at the price it was offered at, basically ropey to average mk5 GTI money.

1 owner from new with comprehensive FVWSH
Completely bog standard
Manual
Unmarked wheels
Mint interior

Bodywork has some of the usual mk5 issues (wings are fine)but all in all nothing bad and easily rectified










Pics ain’t the best, but they are all I have. No plans other than to enjoy it for what it is, enjoy the noise and fix the bodywork issues very soon

I loved mine, so much so I bought it twice!!! Lol! They are great great cars and make a beautiful noise from stock. Always liked the chrome grill as it stands or from the ‘cooking’ models.

Coming into the winter it will be a great car with the 4mo and nice dollop of torque.

You sound like me, I’ve done that with a VW T5

I agree on the grille, I wasn’t keen on it when they were first released but I like it now. Certainly won’t be changing it.

It will certainly be better than the 140i on MPSS tyres this winter

I thought I’d best update this as the car has been off the road for a few months bringing it back up to a reasonable standard

Basically it was suffering from usual mk5 Golf rust spots, front and rear of the sills, rear arches, door bottoms and tailgate. Annoyingly VW “repaired” the rear arches and sills under warranty 4 years ago. The “repair” was nothing more than a rub down and a blow over. It’s been done properly this time, rust removed and metal replaced.

Whilst it was in having its makeover the radiator sprang a leak, corroded at the bottom corner due to a build up of leaves and other damp debris. This was replaced with a new OEM part and thankfully it had the foresight to leak before the body shop built the front end back up.

The MOT and annual service were carried out at the dealer the week after getting it back, the MOT highlighted some advisories, front console bushes and rear ARB link so these have been replaced along with the flaking but functional OSR caliper. Again new OEM parts were used.

The wife was never keen on the continentals fitted to the car so she replaced them with 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport4s.

That brings us pretty much up to date, it’s going in for a full paint correction (to get rid of body shop polishing marks and small swirls) ceramic coating will help keeping it clean too.

Over winter it will get all 4 wheels refurbished and the rear window tints are being removed, unfortunately to re tint them as the wife likes rear privacy glass. Her car so she’s boss

That’s a gorgeous R32. What sort of ball park are you talking about for removing the rust and respray can I ask? Mine has rust on the passenger door sill and left rear arch. I’ve been meaning to get it sorted but the few body shops I’ve spoken to say they would just respray the affected areas with cutting out the metal and replacing it.

Thank you very much. It’s been kept completely standard all it’s life and we intend to leave it that way

We paid £1500 as a favour, from a mate but he did have it for 4 months and discounted the price to take into account that the original timescale was 4 weeks
Initially quoted £1800 If I stripped and rebuilt the car myself, I agreed to strip it but they rebuild it after painting. In the end I didn’t do anything due to ill health at the time of it going in

Looks in fine fettle best colour too, the removable door skins intrigue me on the MK5 always thought it was a great idea

It’s booked in for a paint correction and ceramic coating next week, this is to remove the marks from the body shop polishing

After that retint the rear windows and a wheel refurb. I’d love to rebuild underneath with powder coated parts but in all honesty it’s pretty clean and original so I’ll leave it for now

One of the best sounding engines out of the box for sure, OP have you fitted a Miltek or just cleaned the tailpipes?? Look super shiny, flapper mod done if stock??

They do sound great, totally addictive noise.

The backbox is an OEM unit from a 7000 mile car, I got it from a mate who swapped it out for a milltek when his car was near new. Our original pipes weren’t in great condition

Lovely car mate. You won't regret the paint correction and having it coated. Made such a big difference when i had mine done, looked like a new car.

love it, i am abit biased tho.......
currently prepping it to sell as i just dont use it.
just replaced the knocking rack, while it was off i polly bushed everything, fitted anti lift rear bushes, dogbone insert, replaced the exhaust flexis, and refreshed the droplinks, ball joints ect. the thing just points abd goes! mines abit crusty on the inner front wing lips but it polishes up well

What I cost to do that lot mines a bit wobbly and could do with suspension over hall ,as above regard black ones ,we had a few in the stand last week at Combe ,mine included
