Have a 150 miles commute (75 each way) 90% motorway.

Will the 530d (F10) be just as comfortable as a 730d (F01)? Thinking 2014 year ish.

Any advantage to picking the 7 over the 5?

I'd suggest trying to get into an early G11/12 if you can stretch your budget. We have a G12 and in every way it is better than our F10. The only reason not to go for the 7 would be if size was an issue.

If you carnt stretch your budget try and find a low mile E60 530d,

Ive got one and I have a regular run from Derbyshire down to just the other side of Harlow, and another trip we ve started doing is to a relatives in Newmarket.

Newmarkets a doddle bar the road works at Cambridge, and that's 95 % on cruise and 5 % to her house.

Harlow we go M1<A414 so a good mixture and some stop start etc.

Basically no matter what mileage I do in mine, it feels like ive just popped to the shops and back rather than a 2/3 hour journey.

Personally I’d go for a 7, that’s what they’re designed to do, but with more toys & room than the 5.

I’m biased though even though my 7s an E65. I looked at F01s, but none were in my budget at that time

I certainly wouldn’t consider the E60 range, cheap/plasticky interior and inferior to the 7s IMO

My commute is similar, hundred miles a day with 95% on the motorway. The 7 is perfect for it and is a lovely place to sit. Off the motorway it feels big and floaty compared to the 520d I had before which I always enjoyed driving in a spirited way. The 7 doesn't encourage that, you end up just wafting around, which is fine as long as you know that's what your getting.

F01 facelift has air suspension as standard, together with long overdue 8 speed auto, stop start etc. So for ultimate comfort that would be the one I guess.
