Childhood Heroes

Who were yours?

Growing up in the 70's / early 80's, Dennis Lillee. Such a great bowling action and we loved seeing hm terrorize the English when he paired up with Geoff Thomson.

Music wise - Mark Knophler. I first heard the Alchemy live album then was instantly hooked. To this day still such a talent.

[HD Adam]

I grew up in the 60's so it's the Apollo astronauts for me.

[Eric Mc]

Same here (indeed all the astronauts) - and Neil Armstrong in particular. The more I read about him, the more I liked him.

Can't wait to see "First Man".

[daddy cool]

Stringfellow Hawke.

With you on Knopfler.

( Plus he attended my school 20-plus years before. In the 80s there were still 1960s text books knocking round with his name in them. There were also many forgeries.)

[bristolracer]

Jackie Stewart

Roy Wood

[alorotom]

Police and fireman - how they handled the miners strike, IRA and other issues in the 80s

[colin79666]

Mr Boom

[LaurasOtherHalf]

Senna.

[Mr.Chips]

Donald Campbell, Graham Hill and Nobby Stiles.
Saw Roy Wood on Friday, going to the bank!

[pureguilt]

As above plus John Noakes of Blue Peter fame , a lot of the stuff he got up to would give the H&S boys a heart attack by today’s standard.

No a West Ham fan from East London.

I liked the Wombles' style, but didn't really know where Wimbledon Common was.

[Higgs boson]

It's likely that even the Bike Banter boys won't know who this is!
