Ok, apologies for yet another "what car" thread, but I'm really struggling with ideas here.

I currently own a Mk3 Mondeo hatch in Ghia X form (with the Grandad wooden steering wheel and dash trims), and a Mk7 Fiesta ST. I've just bought a house that is due to be finished in March next year and unfortunately I'm gonna be able to afford to run both cars, so they've both got to go in favour of a practical, yet fun and fast, car.

I'll have a budget of around £10k or less if I can help it. I'm not overly sure I want a diesel what with all the emissions regulations now and the problems associated with them, so keen on a petrol.

It needs to be:
- reliable
- fast
- fairly economical (as in, no less than 30-35mpg)
- and, uhh, fast

I had considered the Mondeo Mk4 Tit X Sport as it would mean sticking with Ford (I've owned Fords pretty much my entire driving life up to now and have always gone back to one).

What else could people suggest to suit my budget and needs?

PH'er in need of help!!

The Mondeo is the most sensible option but I'd actually buy this:

Now if you want a fast estate then the above fits the bill as well as being 4wd they're a very nice place to be, as well as being fast & that's before you map it.

Below is it's more sensible brother but I'd buy the Mondeo Titanium X Sport over this:

Or if you want to save some pennies & don't mind FWD then there's this:

That is very possibly the ugliest thing I've ever seen and I've spent some time in Bridgwater.

C55 or E55 AMGs. Will only do mid 20s MPG but covers all other bases. What you lose in fuel costs you'll hopefully save with minimal depreciation.

It depends on how fast an estate you want also remember on something like the Mondeos below the difference is £240 then think how much it would cost you to get the Mondeo up to 320bhp.

I hadn't actually even considered any Vauxhalls - but I have always had a bit of a secret soft spot for them...

Well you won't go wrong with a VXR make sure the Haldex unit has been serviced on schedule but they're an underrated car for me they need to be mapped because Vauxhall muted the torque to try to make the engine seem N/A a simple map ny Courtney/Thorney will see it restored.
