I've not posted this thread in the BMW section because I didn't want to limit the replies to Beamer owners.

What's the general impression of Alpina Beamers ? My mother had a 2002 series Alpina back in the 1970's, ( she also had a Coombes Mk 2 Jaguar )but other than that I know zilch about them.

Are they overrated? Are they keepers ? It's Hubbie's birthday soon and I'm thinking of buying him an Alpina B5 4.4 litre. It's a used one reg.2007 with three owners and 53 k on the clock.

Opinions on the above would be very welcome. Thanks.
Cheers.

They are very well regarded and pretty rare.

You will normally find them compared to the equivalent M car and in that respect the consensus normally is that they beat out the M car with a much more comfortable ride and lose some of the dynamism of the M.

Quick and rare.

However, rather 'challenging' styling imho which always comes across as rather halfords, and the interior options are usually lacking. When I was looking at e90's the equivalent Alpina generally lacked electric seats, parking sensors, idrive etc.

Not for me, but I can kind of see the appeal.

Oh come on, this retort is nearly as over used as frozen sausages!

OP - it would be a very nice, individual present. I wish my wife would by me a flash car for my birthday.....

Probably the most pertinent question would be does he like Alpinas?

For example, I’m a massive BMW fan yet I can’t stand Alpinas.

I don't know if he does, but he does like fast cars hence our Continental GTC, DB9 and Quatrofoglio. I'm looking for something a bit different for him.

Why don't you like Alpinas ?

Thanks , Leon, for your helpful reply. It is interesting that they seem to have a more comfortable ride than the M cars. Only last week Hubby was complaining about the condition of the roads and stating that he was going to buy a BMW 5 Series for a much better everyday ride ; the Continental GTC and the DB9 we have not being suitable for everyday use.
Ciao.

Do you know, I completely agree about the Halfords look. My Mums Alpina 2002 was white with very conspicuous striping ( red, white and black, I think ).
I guess that missing option like parking sensors etc can always be added later, though.

Cheers.

It is the least I can do for him on his birthday. He did buy me a £70 k Quatrofoglio for mine.

Love the engineering behind their engines, interiors are plush if not particularly to my tastes but I cannot stand the body styling. Feels like they decided on their designs in the 70s and haven’t really done anything since. IMHO they look out of place on anything beyond the E30/E34s.
