Hello all.

Replaced the gears in my '93 968 sunroof yesterday, when we picked the car up last week I failed to check it over properly and on the drive home found the sunroof didn't work, hence we have now replaced the stripped gears.

Went out for a blast after and could still hear a lot of air rushing around the roof and when we got back after going through a major thunderstorm found that the roof has let in a small amount of water.

Sunroof fitting seemed to go well, all works fine, not sure if moving the arms back 1 cog might improve the tightness or not, alternatively is there a chance that the seals have gone ? Can lift the roof by about 1/8" when it is in the locked down position, is this usual ?

Problem 2, rear wiper was not working, checked fuse, that was OK, then looked at the motor housing, found the plug was detatched so plugged it back in. When I turned the ignition on found that the motor was wirring away with the switch in on or off positions but the wiper was not moving, assume a gear has gone but more importantly how do I get to the switch to check its operation ?

Luckily my brother in law is really handy (and enthusiastic) and will be able to sort it for me once I have a clue where to go.

Thanks

Bill

Hello,
Never played with a sunroof motor, but the problem with the rear motor is the white plastic cog that sometimes strips it's teeth. Only solution is to buy a new motor or stripping down an old one unfortunately.

I did away with the whole thing, I think it makes the rear end a bit tidier, I never used it anyway.

It all sounds too familiar!!

Replacing the cogs is only half the story you may also need to reset the microswitches which tell the arms when to stop moving...

there is a whole section on the sunroof stuff here:

www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/repair-procedure-index3.htm

If your seal is a bit lose and you dont really want to replace it then sticking it down with some bathroom sealant works... also check your drian holes and make sure your roof trim hasnt come out of the seal from when you replaced the gears...

I got so annoyed with mine that I decided to take the motors out and seal the roof shut!!! but then mine is a track sl4g!

I would agree - I'd use this as the excuse to remove the rear wiper and motor entirely and save the 5kg (or whatever it is).
