What to do ???
Discussion
Hi everyone, long time since I`ve been posting.
I sold the TTRS 3 1/2 years ago and bought a Q3 2 Ltr Diesel Highline plus, black edition, 19" wheels, panoramic sunroof, tow bar, bike rack etc. etc. came to just under £44,000. I`ve not done 7000 yet and it`s value is now around £21,000 p/x and circa £26,000 private, according to Parkers.
Question, do I sell private, and buy a low mileage early ( 2008 / 09 ) R8 or similar up to 2010 911 C4s. Prices are under £40,000
Hoping they have bottomed out, and may appreciate in years to come ?
Thanks for your opinions

You can buy an R8 v10 for 42-50k.
V8 r8s are pointless and slow (same engine as rs4 so get gunked with carbon)
911 is a good car but be sure you have a warranty. And for 40k I'd want more than a boggo C2.
I think that's a crazy comment - it's all down to the individual whether something is slow. It's hardly pointless either, it was the original Audi supercar and a great car at that. V8 r8s are pointless and slow (same engine as rs4 so get gunked with carbon)

The carbon build up is common across those engines yet is a £350 fix every 20,000 - 30,000 miles. It comes with the territory and never should be considered a show stopper.
Additionally any V10 R8 you buy for £42k - £50k will be a poor car and/or very high mileage - if you're happy with that, go for it. A decent one will set you back £55k to £60k, some 35% to 50% more than the OP's original budget.
However a V8 would be a big step up from what you currently drive, you will get a much better car for your money, they're reliable (but expensive to fix) yet come with more grandeur/sense of occasion than your Porsche.
It's all down to you - drive what you like a decide that way. Keep us posted on your progress.

.
pointless and slow, get a grip man, a v8 easily matches a 911 c4s.
I've also driven a 997 4s and would say (subjectively) the V8 R8 felt a smidge quicker but a fair bit more entertaining. The flat 6 is good but the V8 is excellent.
Avoid the very cheapest examples of either, buy on condition and maintenance.

If that is your limit then how about the new TT RS? Surely you can't get much better bang for your buck than that? Especially if you decide to tune it.
I had a TTRS roadster for 4 years prior to the now Q3, and you`re right terrific performance
I just need to persuade the wife that I`m still a young at heart petrolhead
She has osteoarthritis in her left knee and says she will have trouble getting in and out of something that low, but we`ll see

R8 is every bit as low as the TT RS as well. I haven't driven the new TT RS but the previous model I have and own

So I know how you can miss it. Did you have it tuned when you had yours? Really transforms the car. Also if you get it then you'll be saving about 15k

Not a single V10 for sale in your 42-50k price band on Autotrader
V8 is not slow unless you're used to driving a GTR or 997 Turbo, or maybe you're just not a very good driver and don't understand how to use a gearbox properly, or, more likely, you have never driven or been a passenger in one which is usually the case for people who make these sorts of ill-informed cliched remarks. I'm guessing to you the Boxster is a poor man's Porsche, hairdresser's car as well?
Carbon buildup is a cheap & easy fix, predictably every 4-8 years depending on usage and apart from that the engines are reliable, I'm certainly more comfortable with that than the chances of a £12k Porsche engine failure at any time without warning which I have lived with for nearly 10 years
It seems that your assertion that the V8 R8 is 'pointless' has been taken as seriously as it deserved to be on here, given the overwhelming ignorance of the rest of your post, plus you're hardly walking the walk of performance car ownership with your 2.0 diesel Scirocco. Apart from that, thanks for your contribution!

I'd go for a 997.2 C2S as it'll be a better drive than the 997 C4S and more sought after.
If you want pace at £40k then look at a 996 turbo. Neither the 997 C2S/C4S or Audi R8 V8 will see keep up.
It's not 'better' though just different. C4S has some handling characteristics that some will find 'better' than C2 / C2S such as better grip through wider rear wheels, better traction from AWD, and better weight distribution & less 'bobbing' on acceleration due to the 50kg diff over the front axle. I know they are not as 'sought after' or 'pure' but these may or may not be less important to the OPIf you want pace at £40k then look at a 996 turbo. 996TTs are fast but pretty ancient looking inside and out. Lots of very expensive bits and bobs to replace to keep one in good nick
997s are fantastic cars I owned one for 4 years and it was brilliant BUT they are very common on the roads, a bit dated looking especially inside, and didn't meet the qulity reputation the Porsche brand still seems to maintain. I would easily have another but am in an R8 at the moment and it is in a different class - a lot more special. It has the look & feel of a mid engined V8 hand built junior supercar and gets lots of positive attention. Three people so far have told me it is their dream car.
I saw the suggestion of a Masser GT earlier and have just had one for 2 years myself, they are a great owner experience and possibly the best sounding car out there but the seats are not supportive at all, a consideration for the older OP
